Good review, just a comment though, can you put price and or link to NZ computer retailers that sell the product you review please. Just handy that's all.

ms products are normally available pretty much everywhere, and listing prices has obvious difficulties... i guess rrp would be an indicator anyways...

ok, so rather than getting an ms product (cos they cost lots) what would be a half decent wireless mouse / keyboard kit (or seperate) suitable for a divx box? i.e, won't be used for gaming, so lag not really being an issue.

Genius, nice and cheap. Should be fine for a divx box.

Dick Smith actually have a special on these mice at the moment.. $40 off!

Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse Blue

It's a good review because i'm in the market for a new optical mouse and i currently have a lot of trouble on different surfaces, especially when going to lans a forgetting my mouse mat

I would like to know how this range compares to the MS Explorer range?

The only real difference between this mouse and the Explorer is the shape and the lack of side buttons as I explained in the article.

The version I received was the Special Edition one, that has a black top and grey sides.

I would assume (safely I hope) that the normal "blue" one is identical.

Regards

I have been using an Wireless Optical Mouse Blue for a couple of months now, and was wondering about battery life.
When they first came out, a friend of mine at MS claimed they last a couple of months between changes of batteries.

Whats the best battery life you guys have experienced?

My comp is on 24/7 and I use it a LOT for both work and play.
I seem to get what feels like about a month before I get the low battery warning, then a week or 2 before I actually have to change them.

Great mouse.

My battery life is around a month when used with a pair of 1500mAH Ni-MH batteries. (around 5~6 hours of use per day)

Thanks for the reply Hans.

I am in no way unhappy with my battery life, as the amount of daily use I get out of it could just about be considered as abuse.

Do you think that this mouse could be considered the "wireless that gamers have been waiting for" ?

MS Optical Blue isn't too bad, considering its price. It's much better than the Explorer, in terms of lag, tracking, etc.

I still love my MX-700 though. Battery life isn't as good as the MS optical, but you have the charging base right on desktop so..

FYI, the old logitech cordless ball mouse has a battery life of around 6 months, on a pair of 700mAh AAA batteries.

Not to upset MS blue useres that are happy, but I've read several reviews that slated the wireless mouse. PC Power play gave it 58/100 and said useless for gaming. Just one of many conflicting views on the net
For those interested in wireless k/b mouse, the A4 tech combo here http://www.a4tech.com/a4techenglish/kbs-2548r.htm from is what i have. It was cheap, well thought out, came with rechargeable NiMh batteries and a charger in the reciever.
It's just the k/b is..a bit diffeent I've gotten used to it now, and for $120, gets two thumbs up. Hate to sound like the A4 salesman here ,just happy with it.
Anybody else had good/bad experience with this make?
On the bad side, I've had nothing but trouble with my olympic mouse and k/b. So bad I took them back to the nice people at DTC computers.

I got 6 A4 optical mice, all get regular use, none have failed. Mine lives in the bottom of a bag with pens and stuff... never missed a beat so far. I'll buy A4 again.

I find A4tech fine. Of the 3 PCs in our house two now have A4tech mice and keyboards. Have no need for wireless so just got multimedia keyboard (KB-8) and optical 2 wheel mouse (WOP-35PU)

The keyboards have quite a nice touch (compared to our old ones) and the side buttons on the mouse are usefull enough that I miss them as soon as I get on a PC at work (rather plain MS optical)

My 8 and 13 yearolds play RTCW ET etc on line and find the A4tech mice fine.
