Access to Buy/sell/exchange
Why can't I get into the buy/sell/exchange area. I have been able to for months now and all of a sudden I can't. I got a message today saying not enough posts.
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers

Yea, I'm sort of in the same position..... I presume the threshold is either 50 or 100. To be honest, I actually think it's a good idea, although really annoying for me because I have also been looking in there for quite a while now

we have implimented a postcount limit. From now on guests are unable to see the BSE at all, and junior members have to EARN the right to use it by giving input to the community. Here's the trick though: We have and always do value quality over quantity. If you're spamming to get your postcount up so you can get into the BSE, it's gonna stick out like dogs balls.
Sadly this affects a number of decent background members, but it is a measure to protect the more active community members (the "givers"), especially considering in recent times we've had a number of problematic members abusing the BSE. You guys may not have seen any of it because I got onto it quickly, but it's a headache that none of the mods want, and being ripped off is a headache that none of you want.
To those genuine members who are affected:
The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. Sorry, but thats just the way it is.
To those who want to know what the limit is:
I'm not going to tell you, ever. So dont ask. I ask those who do figure it out to keep it to themselves.
To those who just dont "get it":
If you want to whinge about it, you can always say goodbye to the BSE and we'll just get rid of that luxury altogether.

Thanks Whetu for the clarification, only suggestion would be to have a warning thread before the change and then you could probably avoid threads such as this. I agree with what you are saying and also realise that most people wouldn't see half the stuff that the moderators edit/change.
I have also noticed that there is a lot more spam threads just so that people get a higher count, I think this will always be a problem but I hope persistent spammers get banned.

If thats all you come here for then you seriously shouldn't be allowed access. In fact it f.ucks me off. All these bargains going to people like this!!!! Good idea Whetu.
edit: it=is < why do I always make that spelling error?

Agreed, input to the forums shows that you actually "care", and as a bonus you can get access to some very good deals in the buy sell and exchange.

This is a great idea, well done whetu and the other mods. It will stop people that rip others off and get banned comming back and making a new account and trying to sell thier warez over and over and ripping more and more people off. When was this implimented?

I came up with this problem to a bit annoying since I like having a look for something to add to my case I am only a new member here and have sold a water cooling kit thro the buy and sell and got mysalf a water block this is the only place can find good sc hand water cooling stuff
Do think people where putting too much what is this worth posts to work this out think what you would like for it then – 20%
Don’t think you should be band form having a look in the buy sail but should not be able to post in it till you are a proven member
but you should be able to pm the person as it is there chooses if they sell it to you there is also safe trader which only cost a few extra bucks for valuable stuff
that is my view on the subject

BSE is not like TardMe.
BSE is all about a community of enthusiasts helping each other out making surplus stuff available, and obtaining necessary bits from those who have spare. Some items go around a few times, letting a number of people try something. All this is done at reasonable prices.
TardMe is just the great unwashed trying to rip each other off, half their stuff being retail plus.
To mix the two is to invite problems. The new setup might not be ideal in all situations, but it is much better than the old way in most situations. I'm 100% behind the mods on this one.
Not a helpful last line bob8899 - best reconsider and remove quickly.

Slightly off topic, but when you get someone who has won your auction, do you have to pay tardme before you get their details or does tardme give you them before you pay them?, coz if they give you details before you pay them then you can just not pay them, simple, reason=they didnt want the item so i didnt go through with the transaction, thus i am not going to pay.
Can it work like that?

If you don't have enough money or you are debts your trademe account would'nt let you run a auction but if you have a minimum of $0 or more in your account, after the auction trademe will still release the buyer detail.

just shows your brimming enthusiasm to be part of this community and thus deserving of the right to use the BSE.

I cant guarantee it will stop all abuse of the BSE, but it's a step in the right direction. Prevention is definately better than the cure. This was implimented the night before this thread was made. The forum software was updated at the same time.

Punctuation is your friend. I speak/read/write english. At a glance, you dont. I have no idea what you are rambling about, it took me a few minutes of beating my head with a stalk of celery before I finally got your point.
In future please use the language we have agreed on: ENGLISH. This may seem harsh, but I'm getting sick and tired of reading posts written in the plebtard dialect. If english is your primary language, go back to school. If you are ESOL, then you are excused, but you should really try that little bit harder. I know if for example I moved to germany, I would put in that extra bit of effort to make sure I was understood when speaking/writing in german.
Now specifically, here's a point that I must stress to everyone:

First of all you are not banned, you are restricted from access to two forums on OCNZ. Firstly there is the moderators forum, which is easy to restrict - only defined accounts are allowed in. To do this with the BSE would be a NIGHTMARE. So other options were looked at.
Secondly, please stop suggesting other methods. We looked at all the options and this was the only really viable one. It is possible to impliment other methods, but they are too time consuming for us. As moderators we strive to do the best for the community, but you as members must realise that we volunteer our time here. We dont want a solution where we are giving up MORE of our time to manually register people for the BSE. Our community is too big for that now, and as moderators we try to develop this community so that we can be members first and only moderators when we need to be. So that brings us to two major options: Set and forget prevention, or just get rid of the BSE altogether. Which would you prefer?
No honestly, which would you prefer? I'm interested. Who here wants to not have the luxury of a BSE? Game set and match to smartypants

What did he say? You can PM me, I promise no-one will get in any trouble, and he wont pick a fight with you in the playground after class
monk, disrespective, unicorn and casemodder... it's so good knowing that at least some of you get it.

The last point brings up an old addage of mine:
When you pay for the use of these forums is when you get the right to whinge

Just giving whetu's post a little more perspective, I don't think a lot of you guys realise just how much work moderating is.
At least 90-95% of the problems come from the BSE, which is usually along the lines of "TEH N00B RIPPED ME OFF, tell me where he lives" etc etc.
As whetu mentioned, other options have been looked at and none addressed the problem without requiring the moderators to put in even more work than they already do.

I think this move is a move in the right direction,
new members shouldn't be allowed to post and look at it, cause they can always dig up some way to contact a person, and say someone puts in a wanted advert, they can take the money and run sort of a thing...
anyway, I support your move.

The BSE forum should stay. It is a good place to sell things that people over at tard me dont know what the heck they are "Whats a Water Block?" or "Whats a Darkrider?" etc. Again we should not let the few spoil it for the other more established forum members.
To the Mods:
I and i am sure all the other forums members are very thankful to you for the work and time that you put in. After all it is time that could be spent tweaking that water cooling system, or modding that case, but you are generous enough to put it into the OCNZ comunity. Thanks again.
To the Whingers:
Your time will come when you will be able to use the BSE forum freely, that is of course providing it is still there. You may think that it is a waste of time now and shouldn't be there, but what happens when you get over that post count limit?
Again great work mods, and long live the BSE forum!
