Why we have no image sigs

Just to ressurrect this discussion from a while ago, I came across this prat - an extreme example of image-sig madness gone bad.....

im glad we dont hav Image Sigs in these forums, would jst be a hassle, and also pages take a long time to load if your on 56k, eg Madonion forums, some of these THreads take ages to load because some dicks upload 100KB sigs.

I agree completely. On the MadOnion forums I turned images off mainly because of the size, but also because most of the users produce 'lovely' sigs that contain bright yellow backgrounds, a dodgy woman in a bikini and their system specs in size 30 'Impact' font coloured neon green. In conclusion, I firmly believe that looking at some of those sigs could cause insanity.

Perhaps this is a bit of a hyperbole, but I'm a picky bastard by nature. :D

meh....those are the extreams, usualy by kiddie gamers or idiots.....
i think that if restrictions are placed, image sigs would work well here.

especially since i dont think that any one would be st00pid enough to have big ones

tojja has made a point, and im not in favour of image sigs either.

but im sure no one in these forums would be stupid enough, or n00b enough, or 9 yr old playing cs @640 x 480 on a gf4ti4600 caus it makes the game faster enough to have a sig like that.....

Yeah image sigs like that would suck when on dial up. Yeah sure there is caching, but people DO change their sigs so you'd have to download the new ones anyway.

Also all the people with JetStart would chew through their MB's with peoples images sigs ;)

I just hate image sigs cuzz you dont know if its a image they have attatched or just their sig, it changes the thread to about 10 times as long, and u just search for 2 lines of txt inbetween each image, and the 56k dialup faXtor

i reckon the main thing about image sigs is that they attract attention away from the actual post. i mean, whats more eye catching, a bright picture (however small) or a line of text. they are a pain in the bum.

this has been discussed many a time, does it really need to come up again... :rolleyes: :p

but think about this:

the HTML of this page is 66KB, which is fine because it can be compressed about 3:1 or better - so say 22KB. your image sig alone is an uncompressable 11KB.

this page = 22K.
your sig = 11K.

yes, it's very pretty, but it's less than necessary.
