Okay I had a old PII 233mhz & the motherboards PS-2 slots started giving off sparks.... so I brought a cheapish new Slot 1 BX board off trademe & now I can't get it to boot at all.... there are no beeps or anything. the CPU speed switch is set according to the guide printed on the motherboard & I've tried clearing the Cmos to no avail. The fans turn on but they are the only sign of life.

Try taking the cmos battery from your old mobo and biff it into the BX mobo.. Ive fixed a few computers simply by putting in a new cmos battery... so its worth a shot...

Check to see if any capacitors are showing signs of bulging on top or residue around the base.
The capicitors around the back of the CPU slot have problems on several boards.
