Hi there,
Can anyone tell me how this RAID thing works?
does it work on just one HDD or do you need at least 2?
What are the differences between Serial ATA RAID and SATA RAID, and RAID 0 and RAID 1?
Thanks

Google is your Friend :)
Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks
Serial ATA Raid = SATA Raid
You need a minimum of 2 disks for a Raid array

well nope but i found a quick guide (http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/perf/raid/concepts/gen-c.html) that might help :)
a quick google will turn up more info if you need it.

you need at least two.

actually the S in SATA stands for serial. :p
Raid 0 is striping - where two hard drives become one to increase performance. capacity is double the smallest hard drive and if any drive in the array fails, all data is lost.
Raid 1 is mirroring - two hard drives become one for data security. basically everything is written to both disks so that if one fails you dont lose data. this of course does not protect against viruses etc. performance is almost twice as fast reading but no different while writing. capacity is the same as the smallest drive.
/edit: as said above, google is your friend.

yes, its essentially just an easy way to make data transfer wither faster (striped array, raid 0)....or safer (mirrored array, raid 1) or a combination of both (eg, raid 7...4 drives..2 stripred, and 2 backing up the striped ones)...it just uses hardware to join several drives into one drive

thats dependant on the controller.......... only 3ware and highpoint read data from both drives to improve performance while reading

you take one can of Raid, and spray towards centre of room. for an immediate kill, direct spray towards insect.
