Almost every night betwen 10:30 and 12:30 the dial up connection goes completley dead. Ping times out and tracert never gets there.

Tonight (10:20-10:40) I could not connect at all dial up, handshake, hang up. When I finally did get connected no pages will load, tracert gets as far as the server and then times out.

Anyone else get this? Dialup form Auckland.

Paradise are crap. When "I could not connect at all dial up, handshake, hang up" this happens, that means they donts have enough lines to connect you. Its instead of an engaged signal.

Complain with your feet and change ISPs. Paradise couldn't give a **** either way.

I'm thinking it is something like this. Last time I complained about a dead connection they said it was a bad line. Seems a bit strange since telecom's line test came back as above normal quality.

I heard they signed up more customers than they can handle.
I used to get fake error messages when trying to log into my jetstart account, when they actually hadn't purchased enough lines. (that's about as technical as I can get ;))
The same kind of thing happened with my old dialup account with them.

A long time ago Paradise was the best ISP... Things went downhill and thesedays it's a very average ISP.

I would suggest a change to Inspire (www.inspire.net.nz) or Ihug (www.ihug.co.nz). Both maintain good line/user ratios and I can't remember the last time I had a busy signal or a connection problem.

First time Ive had a prob with paradise in 7 months being connected. As said before had no connection between ~10pm and midnight; DSL customer in North Canterbury.

Unless it happens with a more frequent occurance Im pretty happy with them for the time being.

my mates girlfriend is having major problems with her paradise account, at first i thought it was a hardware prob, because of the good things ive heard about Paradise but after trying my Slingshot account i have come to realise its her ISP. I would have to reconmend slingshot for anyone wanting a cheap ISP, i run a second line and have it on 24/7 (cant afford a router/modem for ADSL and its slightly cheaper), when i reset my connection for woteva reason it always connects first time, and i am very rarely disconnected by Slingshot.

you know i just saw this thread this afternoon and went to view it and it didn't load... then i realised everything was dead... and it stayed that way for long enough for me to actually get sick of waiting to go out and do some shopping.

i gotta say tho that this is the first real problem i've had with paradise since signing up with them 5 months ago. i wuv my 256k clabe ;)

Paradise/TelstraClear Cable is a whole nother situation though ... in the 5 years or so I've been on cable I can only recall probably 3 or 4 outages and at least 2 of them were scheduled maintenance that we were advised of in advance.

I wuv my 2Mbit Cable :)

I've been with ihug for over 4 years (dial-up, sat and now jetstart) and I've had no problems with them...

we've been having a few probs here as well, disconnects and wont connect for 5 mins or so. router shows authentication error (paradise 128k jetstart).

until last week it was always the routers fault :p but this definately isn't.
