Hey guys
Mini Lan 002 was a let down due to people not turning up it was a failure. Our main problem was venue, that is why i thought i might start this thread and see where you guys like to Lan eg in town, NCGN hall and so on.....
we are open to any suggestions that you guys might have to offer for venue and other stuff eg prizes
Please give us a hand
Cheers Dragon Flame

Now don't take this the wrong way...
I'd like to see only the NCGN boys running lans at the place that NCGN uses. Why? Well...
1. They do an excellent job (if 007 is anything to go by)
2. They have an already working relationship with the owners (and I'd hate to see someone with lesser standards ruin that (not saying that you do))
If theres going to be a lan at that location, they might as well organise it for the above reasons.
Having said that, if you can provide somewhere warm and cosy with a decent network, we'll be there with bells on! :)

I reckon you would want to get a decent amount of people to make it worthwhile to go all the way out to Rolleston. Plus the cost would be quite expensive I would say.

Rolleston is rather hard to manage for the lack of tables.
eg prizesIf it's hardware prizes, then ... that is pretty bad thing to do, as that becomes the main attraction of the lan. But if you were thinking of something else, then ignore that.
Mini Lan 002 was a let down due to people not turning up it was a failureYou have to expect that really. I remember the first couple of L3's, they had a lot of people not showing up but we still had a great time and we never deemed those as failures.
It really depends on the number of people you want to show up. As you can see from the LAN thread there is now half a dozen people organising LANs in there houses, or smaller halls. That is a good place to start. Having watched SS and KJ work magic with the resources they had/have they did (and will do) a great job.
Unfortunately you would no doubt be rated against an L3 or even VM, as others will tell you, rocked.
One thing which sometimes is a pain is not having game times organised, as we saw at NCGN you had only 4 or 6 people playing one game and the same number in another (still ROCKED!).
Organisation, planning and connectivity will make yours a success too, remember networking issues kill a LAN.

Hey guys
Just want to thank you for you incourgement and suggestions we should be holding a Lan as soon as we get a good comfortable venue and get some better tables and seating.
Have had news of a couple of good venues and i dont think many people want to travel a long trip for a lan unless it is L3;)
I am working on having a Lan in my school hall as northlands is litrually 60Metres away from our hall and everything is less than 10 inutes away will find pic hold on ........

Yes, that last lan was an absolute failure with a total of 12 registered, and 3 showing up bar us organisers. We need to get our act together for this next one otherwise it wont be feesable to do another one after it. Communication between us organisers and you attendees is vital.
That venue looks like it will suit us nicely. theres plenty of places to go for food and drink, DSE as a last resort for those requiring power cables / NIC's / whatever, and should the power fail on us we can gatecrash timezone :D
what we really need is networking gear - namely a nice big switche ( 32 port 10/100 or better), but alas we are but poor students... so we will have to make do with what we have ( a 16 port and a 8 port provided by myself and Z3RO 0) So anyone who has a 16 or 32 port switch that they can bring along would be great.
So PM me the cost to hire it out dragonflame, and we'll see if we can get another lan rolling :)

I may have a 24Port Switch available soon.
You shouldn't really worry about how many people are coming, it takes away from the fun of planning a lan.
I found that I had more fun planning the lan then when it was on. Mainly coz when the lan was happening I was running around keeping 100+ gamers happy and making sure that the power kept going.
I agree, prizes are a big step and if you do it once, you will have to keep doing it. Something you could try if you really want to give away really cool prizes is to have your normal lans, and then every 6 months or so have a really big one, but only open to the people that came to say 60% of the normal lans. That way you will have a base gamer number and they will keep coming. Also, a lot of gamers will not enter tournies (for verious reasons) so having spot prizes for just anything will be good if you are going that way.
Just liek to say that if anyone needs/wants help setting up a lan, I'm willing to help as best I can.
