Hi Guys,

I am sure that most of you are happy with the back of OCNZ forum.

Just wondering, what did you do these days without the fourm? :)

-- created a new cdrom bootdisk. now who needs floppies :P
-- spent a fortune on motorcycle clothing.

-- visited ocnz site 10 times a day hoping the forum was up again :)

* got my case front panel spraypainted black *drools*
* rewired my fan power distribution point for hard settings, eg two connectors are hardwired 7v two are hardwired 12v.. i change so rarely that theres no point having the fugly fanbus switches
* worked some more on these forums
* saw the surgeon about my hernia, finally on the waiting list
* fixed a few computers

aaaaaannnd that about covers it.. apart from the standard drudgery of 6.30am wake ups, freezing my ass off at the train station... sleeping in tech lectures etc

- bought 400w leadman psu
- overclocked geforce 4 and got 41 3d marks below a gf4 ti4600

- visited gta3.com forums because of withdrawl symptoms

- watched some tv eps and a couple of movies.

I went to OEM puters to get a cold boot problem sorted... since i upgraded to a PowerMaxx500 i knew it had to be the Mobo (DRV2). So after 2 days of not believing me - they rang back and told me...
Good news: U got a new mobo...
Bad News: Your ATI8500 don't work no more!

The tech broke a track on the AGp socket... so after they tried to tell me it was not their fault, i finally upgraded to a leadtek4400 for $150 and i still get to keep the ATI which i can prolly fix *fingers crossed*

anyway get back home reinstall the whole thing and D3D locks up the machine completely.... after reinstalling win2k (also winXP, win98se) bout 30 times (was weekend so OEM was closed... nothing better to do i guess), tried diff Video cards - moving the 4400 to my old BX board etc etc. I could have narrowed it down to the Mobo (again!!!) there and then but i was too tired... so i went back to OEM where they were lucky enough to get it to go. So i take the case back home and of course when i reinstall it - no go!!!
Getting quite sick of all this i traded in my new DRV2 for a DRV5 (which i know works with the leadtek - soltek forum)
... and what do u know everything works fine now.

long story short - what a god dam waste of my 2 weeks leave.

What a useless tech - sorry to hear of the hassle, but damn that guy sucks - I don't think you should have had to pay anything for that Ti4400 either - they killed your card, and they should have replaced it for free. :mad:

check OCNZ every 15 minutes to see if the forum is back.

Apart from that, I got use to not being online much, felt strange, actaully did my assignments and stuff like that.

Wasn't worried bout paying more for the card and stuff - the way the owner calculated it was my 8500 is equivalent to a ti500 and worked out the diff for a 4400 - and that's still bout $50 cheaper. What pissed me off was the Tech attitude - he kept saying it's not my fault, can't see what i can do bout this - the card just stop working - then i found the broken track... i don't think tis his fault really as it could have happened to anyone, but the way he would have been happy just to see me walk out and make nothing of it showed a lack of professional ethics "ignore it ... and it'll go away..." Somehow i think may be the owner told him to make this go away i dunno... anyway sorted now. And i still got a Gf4 now :) .... except i have not played with it much as i got so fed up with my puter in the last couple of days.
anyway....

Huh? Mandrake is like THE easiest to use and most compatible ( with newer PCs ) version of Linux out there ( or close to it ). What went wrong?

Last time I installed Mandrake everything worked first time - though it took a while ( was trying to cram it onto a 1GB HDD with the dev packages :D ). Especially the net - took even less time to setup than windows! :)

Was at school when I found the forum down, my whole day at school was lost :(. I resorted to OCAU (haha they suck arse) and some WinXP forums, just wasn't the same.
At home I just sat around twidling my thumbs & checking every 5 mins to see whether the forum was back up again.

yeah, the install was pretty, but it wouldent play with my sblive, and just felt generally clunky. their all singing all dancing auto patcher wouldent work either.

slackware 8.1 isnt far off now, i cant wait :)
