*looks around and sees no other replies yet....pulls out piece of paper with standard response to this sorta question*
Welcome to the forums ;)
First step is to locate the search button and search the forums here, whetu's done an excellent overclocking tutorial and I'm sure you'll find it. Then search some more, there's plenty of threads giving all sorts of advice/help advice.
Once you've read up and have some specific questions you can't find the answers for then by all mean post away :D
Just remember, we're a friendly bunch and happy to help, as long as you show an inclination to try and help yourself first. We'll point you in the right direction, but we aren't here to spoonfeed you. ;)
Like I said feel free to post again once you've done the searching, look forward to your input to our humble little community :cool:
Oh and by the way, it'll be more helpful if you post your system specs when you come to ask a question, ya know, motherboard, ram, GFX card etc. The more info you give us, the more help we may be able to give you ;)

Read the sticky threads at the top this section - they're a good start.
Then search for more specifics.
If that can't help then post a question here with detail of what you are trying to do, and what you are trying to do it with etc.
Good luck mate :)

Yeah, as ya can tell im just getting the hang of these forums. I had never botherd to use any till the other day. Now I couldnt imagine living without them
So here goes
CPU= Intel 3.2GHz P4 with hyperthreading, 800MHz systembus
MOBO= Intel D865GBF with 865G chipset
RAM= 512 DDR
HDD= Maxtor 60GB SATA150
unfortunately im still running onboard sound and video.
Im kinda out of money after this initial spendup

You won't be doing any overclocking on an Intel Original board, thats for sure. They dont particularly endorse overclocking. :rolleyes:

Yeah, as Zilla said you won't be doing any overclocking with that board (or any Intel manufactured board, AFAIK).
You really made a big mistake there, it always pays to do your research... You should have posted here for advice on which motherboard would be best for overclocking. ;)

but dont get rid of the board. Its a dang good unit. Those 865G boards are built for the Intel stable image program.. Made to be reliable.
However, in the mean time it might be worth while taking a look at cooling and case modding. Two things you are going to need to do if you want to really get anywhere with overclocking.

I was just seeing if it was possible. I wanted this rig to be pretty stable anyways (I use ot for work). Im looking at geting another rig setup soon. The P4 3.2Ghz with hyperthreading is only compatable with the lastest Intel boards (aint it?) whot gear would you recommend for an overclocking rig?
Im still looking at a watercooled setup for the P4 rig, so i can gain some experiance. This setup will go on the clocking rig at a later date.
dont know much bout p4's but whaetever you get get a x.xC
and prob some fancy asus mobo ;)

My top P4 mobo's atm, considering price + performance + features + overclocking
Soltek SL-86SPE-L - can be got for $230, has huge overclocking potential (FSB up to 350 MHz, vcore up to 1.85v, top-of-range performance @ 1000 FSB), lacks some of the features though, as it only has the ICH5 Southbridge, so doesn't have RAID or onboard CSA gigabit LAN. Still has 10/100 though, and two SATA ports. Active Northbridge cooling on the 865PE chipset. Also completely purple (even the DIMM slots, mounting cage and ATX header connectors are purple
Asus P4P800 - great price, at about $290, excellent overclocking except for poor Northbridge cooling, meaning you'll have to put an aftermarket cooler on it to get over about 260 FSB. Excellent features, featuring SATA, RAID and normal goodies, but strangely enough Asus opted for the 3Com Gigabit controller, limiting the Gigabit to travelling over the PCI Bus, strangling it to a max of about 40 - 50 mb/s per second, compared to the about 125 mb/s that is capable if the onboard CSA architecture had been utilized. 865PE chipset, with a Pandora's box unleashed with Asus' Hyper-Path technology, which makes it effectively faster than the 875P chipset.
Abit IS7 - decent board, good features at a good price. Active Northbridge cooling, and good overclocking potential (something that Abit has always been known for). Good price too, at about $300. Good stable board, with all the goodies. 865PE chipset.
Abit IC7-G - Top of the range 875P chipset board. All the features that Intel offers with the chipset are utilized, coupled with awesome overclocking and performance. Sexy black color make it perfect to show off. All the features come at a premium, coming in at about $460.
