hey
i bought an mx440 (gainward, golden sample) and installed the latest nvidia detonator drivers (29.42) BUT, when i try and run something which needs direct x 8.1, like 3d mark it just gives me an error saying it cannot initialise it, the ut2k3 "demo" does it as well, this is really starting to annoy me, especially the 3d mark part.

does anyone have any ideas as to the problem? oh yes, im also running a very recently downloaded version of direct x 8.1 so it might not be that.

cheers

*hopes jb doesnt read this*:D

anyways, quite a few people have that same problem.. seems the only easy way around it is to reinstall with the card in....

I had that exact same problem....... have you run DXdiag thingie???? Mine would do the direct draw 7 test but wouldn't do the DX8 test. So I turned off D3D and Ddraw using DXtool and then switched them on in DXdiag...... then it worked  well that's how I got my gainward GF 4 working..... I'm running winME BTW :(

Yeah that happened to me too..... all I did was disable direct 3D and direct draw hardware support from the DXTool and then I turned them on in the DXdiag ;)

Have a look at this (http://forums.overclockers.co.nz/showthread.php?s=&threadid=458) thread as well.

You can access it from EXPERTool (see pic) or you can go to run and browse for C:\WINDOWS\DXTOOL.EXE
