For those interested, VR-Zone have a sample of the new Intel chip.. its either a Prescott or Tejas. Specs and stuff are linked in the forum.

Whats freaky to think is Intel had these chips going for a few months already, and probably have working samples of the next generation AFTER these (10ghz+??)...

Announcement of the ship date for the new CPU may be as early as next month, but probably sometime in september.
Going to be 3.4Ghz in current locket form. LGA form will be next march/april. Don't expect any major drop in heat tho.
I wouldnt bother with reading too much in to next years CPU release, everything after march is still in the planning stages and will probably remain so til at least early next year.
Mainly for the next year as far as the consumer business is concerened not much will be changing from the actual features being offered in terms of HT, cache, etc. Its more than the technical internals of those features may change.
For example, things like 4 logical processors or separated integer and FP units for the HT are being talked about. Also the 64 bit desktop idea is being bandied around both the ideas of moving P4 to 64 bits or more than likely moving the Itanium to the desktop. Remember it took 10 years from the time the first 32 bit processor was released to when mainstream developers finally moved over. Even now, many programmers are really still coding 16 bit style code. So i'd probably put 64 bits on the back burner for quite some time.
Gb ethernet on the desktop seems to be an enabler for 10GbE server next year which should be good. A clarification was made on the Intel integrated ethernet.. Basically their setup works at 2xPCI directly into the MCH (basically 266MHz) rather than into the southbridge at PCI (133Mhz) less whatever other cards you have installed. So its good for a bit more optimal bandwidth.
The focus is really getting more of digital media content, rather than raw speed. Think multi-media instant messaging. Video emails and that kind of stuff. You know, enabling all the stuff you can do with your tv, video, dvd, home theatre on your PC and allowing it to be shared over the net. The gist is to enable you to do more different tasks in less time, rather than trying to do one task really quick as the AMD focus still seems to be. Thats pretty much why HT is so important.
Thought about the AMD market a few times, but in the end conclusion was that it pretty much aint big enough in NZ to warrent bothering with. Basically as far as I can see it with Intel having such a high market share at the moment. When you factor in Apple, their aint much left. So the AMD product has been consigned to the 'only if asked' bin. At least on my part.
There is more too it than that tho. After reviewing the latest AMD pricing model (which is really fragmented), their really obscure speed ratings (some of the models run slower than those directly below, but have been tweaked inconsistently) and no clear direction of strategy coming from AMD, its just plain too hard to offer any clear commitment to customers.
Remember that the new bits coming to the desktop (such as PCI Express) have been server based for a year now, so they are not really new, just coming to the masses. I'm getting quite excited about next years boards. Especially when the PCIE graphics cards come out. However, I am well pleased with my 875/865 boards and know these are going to stay stable for the next 12-16 months. So no reason not to put off buying. (Prescott will plug straight in).
The other thing I am quite excited about is the Digital Home Initiative. This is starting to be talked about more and more, and its good to hear that Sony are really getting into the thick of things. Everyones focused on Centrino this year as its the kick of technology, but I think DHI will bring more focus to the gamer which should only be good.
Good to see some overclockers members at the last Intel channel update. It was a good show, well for my part, coz I won an Intel 865 board and 3.0C CPU. :)
