Just want to say thanks to Whetu for mentioning smoothwall so many times on the forum that I finally got to using it :D and it works a treat!!!

Although there is one problem, my set up runs like this:

Internet comes through a Motorola 4100 Surfboard from Paradise at 256k
Goes to the smoothwall box on NIC one (202.X.X.X) (Red)
The 2 other PCs (WIN XP) on the LAN which are connected via a switch run out of NIC two (192.168.0.1) (Green)
I have an FTP server running on the third NIC (Orange) (2003 Server) which I am trying to connect with the IP of 172.0.X.X the problem I have is that a) the FTP server can't acess the web and b) therefore no one can connect.

What I want to know is how should I assign the IPs to the FTP box, help with the netmask etc would be cool to. I have done a bit of research on this but all that I can find relates to using a Router which I don't have.

Cheers

I havn't used Smoothwall for years but if you have 3 interfaces in the firewall then you won't need a router as the firewall will forward the traffic.

forward port 21 from your surfboard to your smoothwall box, then on your smoothwall box forward port 21 to your server on your DMZ (orange) network.

It might be easier if you gave a list of subnets compared to your network colours...

For example here's mine:
Red:
Internet - M1122 203.114.157.x
M1122 - Smoothwall 192.168.1.x
Orange:
192.168.10.x
Green:
192.168.0.x

Make sure the computers on your DMZ are pointing to the IP of your Smoothie's orange interface as your gateway, and manually enter your ISP's DNS addresses.

The IP address of the ftp server has to be in the same range and subnet as the IP address of the orange NIC (which you setup when you installed smoothwall). Then you have to setup port forwarding for FTP. The help button in the port forwarding section of smoothwall is helpfull for this :)
