I got hooked with GTA3 these days. However, I find it to be extermely graphics intensive.

The game is fine with 1024*768*32 or 1280*1024*32. However, it started to skip once 2X or 4X FSAA comes in to play. I can use 2X under 1024*768*32 in the first island. The game would skip way too often in the second island, under the same setting.

Just wondering what sort of resolution are u guys using??

System:

XP-1600 @ 1750 MHz.
512MB Ram @ 175 MHz, 2-2-2
Leadtek GF4 Ti-4200 310C/630M
WinXP

800/600 16 bit max view distance.
All the fancy details turned off tho like trails (which slaughters the framerate)
All on a voodoo5 5500
And using fraps im getting about 20fps.
Which is better than me M64

1024 X 768 X 32 - drawing distance at halfway

2 X AA, and running the silly little utility to force software TnL to stop the skipping. 4 X AA is crazy talk :)

My main problem is I am without a CDROM, so I had to make images out of the discs so I can bloody play it, and my hard drive is currently sh!t, so it has little lags all the time...but with the little util, all that is g-oooone :)

Cheers

1024 x 768 x 16bit

trails on because if you turn it off you loose the nice lighting effects.

view distance on default.

runs quite smooth, FSAA is too much of a performance hit for me so I leave that off.

on T/Bird 1400, 384mb, GF4 MX440 300/480

haha, you guys make me laugh....

i play at 720x520 @32bit ......its a resolution i invented (using powerstrip) just for this game.

AA?..lmao...no way its too slow, but i found turning Anisotrophy on (level 2 is all my GTS can do) makes textures much nicer.

I used to play at 800x600 @32, but with Aniso i had to bump down the res a little to keep it speedy. (this is with teh software TnL trick)

1152x864x32
draw distance full
frame limiter on (skips all the time if off)
frame sync off
trails off yuk

i havent tweaked FSAA at all so it is default.

Sern: how can you possible like the trails, they make the game look less like pc and more like PS2, its to make lower framerates look good.

SP: turn the draw distance down, that will give you a 10fps increase probs

It's a voodoo5 dude.
Tried with both far and near draw and it doesnt matter one bit.
Even 640/480 doesnt change jack squat.
However, this isn't troubleshooting ;)
I'm happy with the performance considering my card has zero official support ;)

at 800x600 it skips frequently, @ 640x480 it still skips frequently.... using 2000 adv server @ the mo so that can't help much.... my lil duron 600 is begging to be upgraded :( so much waiting
