I am confused with these two technologies.
Are they one and the same?
Can bluetooth modules connect to 802.11b networks?
...
Those are the main questions; and the answers to those will most likely answer all my other questions; but if they don't, I'll ask away.

Bluetooth is a wireless protocol to allow you to connect devices to your PC without cables (printers scanners etc)
WiFi is a wireless protocol to allow you to connect computers to each other without cat5 cabling
That is a very simple answer.

Think of it this way.
Bluetooth is a personal radio area network. It is designed to allow devices to communicate with each other within a small area. For example, headsets, phones, pda's. Typically the range is about 10m or less. For example I use a bluetooth ear piece with my T68i phone to allow my to work on the puter while talking to people.
WiFi is a wireless lan technology. Its purpose is to allow computers to communicate the same way they would using a cabled local area network. Its major benefit is to save on the cost of cabling for small networks.
