Well it's time to dust off the drivers forum and share the knowledge I gained today.
Last week I got my Abit NF7 2.0 and I've been really pleased with it so far, today I decided to make up a cable for my active sub, so I could plug straight into the mobo for that 4.1 surround goodness :D
Having a NF7 and not the NF7-S from what I understand, means that I don't have "Soundstorm" but hey I've got 4.1 sound......well that is untill I plugged my sub into the correct output and got....nuthin :(
Anyways to cut a long story short a troll thru the Abit and Nvidia forums turned up some Realtek driver that were suggested.
Downloaded them and stripe me pink if they don't work a treat. 4.1 surround sound with graphic equaliser and a whole bunch of options. :D
Anyways if you wanna try 'em for yourself, they can be found here (http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/dlac97-2.aspx?lineid=5&famid=12&series=8&Software=True)

Ah yes.
Tried that the other day.
Didn't like my mic though.
I used these over the nvidia drivers. Worked a treat.
Back to my Live5.1 now however.

I gave them a go on my NF7, but didn't like them. They make a clicking noise for me whenever the volume is adjusted :(

I am having insane issues with sound on my NF7 atm, notably in NOLF2.
The onboard just drops whole conversations - characters will say three words and then just cut off, and mouth-move in silence. In game it's fine 'appart from bursty static after 10mins grrrr), but the cutscenes (I love those scenes) are completely ruined. Frames with the onboard are very very fast - full everything with AA and AF. Luverlee to look at - in fricken silence.
My Live! value reduces performance by about 80% - christ it's awful - that game just stutters like I'm trying to run it with celeron 800 and a geforce2. Sound in cutscenes is fine.
I'll try these realtek drivers. Clicking noise when I adjust volume I care not, providing my performance and cutscene dialogue are both present.
Thats a problem with the Nimo Codec Pack.
This is the fix. (how i fixed it)
Uninstall Nimo
Uninstall Nolf2
Install SLD Codec Pack
Reinstall Nolf2 (play)
Apparantly the patch is supposed to fix this but it doesn't (still apply the patch anyway).

Hmmm. Don't have nimo, but I do have a misc divx codec pack. Running reinstallation now.

Well the only trouble I've had so far is missing sounds....kinda like what Dusty was saying....Only really noticed it in Operation Flashpoint, some of the speech seems way too low a volume.....
I'm beginning to wonder if it's coz I don't have a center speaker (the one that most sound is supposed to come out of in a 5.1 setup)
But anyways, it works better than the standard nForce drivers :p
You don't run drivers in 5.1 with 4.1 do you? :/ I don't think so....
4.1 doesn't miss out on any sound if it's setup right.

I could only get one speaker working with my NF7 V2.0, (I have two speakers) tried two different driver versions, pissed around with every setting possible.
But I got me a Audigy DE from work for $60 so, yeah... A new BIOS file was released since then tho, so it would probably work now, but I can't be arsed trying it.

i'm presently inclined to believe that a lot of sound problems on the nf2 are southbridge overheating, and pci latency related

Don't forget generally (in my experience) anything Realtek is always a little dodgy and often a pain in the ass..!

Thanks for the NOLF2 fix Monk - the soundblaster live still makes the frames stutter, but the game is actualy playable. Previously it was like trying to play with a ping that changes from 25 to 800 every three seconds.
Hope to try onboard after work today - faster than the live. Those realtek drivers are now safely downloaded.
Love nolf :)
I hated it :p Good to see that helped.

nForce Audio Quotes For NVIDIA.com
Posted by nForcer on Thursday, June 26 @ 06:28:07 CDT
NVIDIA wants to hear from those of you out there who have something positive to say about the nForce APU / SoundStorm audio. And they'll make you famous!
The NVIDIA.com web site is in the process of having the audio section updated and the crew are looking for a few good end user quotes on how you like (or love) the audio. The update isn't scheduled for a while, but the quotes will be needed in the near future. Full attribution will be given, meaning you get to use your real name if your quote is used.
NVIDIA will pick the top few (no more than 3 likely) and put them up for the world to see. Interested?
Wow we should all sign up. nVIDIA audio solutions rock! :p
