Its that time of year again.

Machine is all up to spec.. Running sweet. No new products worth aquiring for the next six months.

Until.

Intel 865PERLK mobo. nz$ 200.
Intel P4 2.6C nz$ 300
Intel P4 3.0C nz$ 600
Intel P4 3.06 533 nz$ 580

Intel Pro 1000/MT Lan NZ$ 66
Intel SRCU42L Raid Controller $660

*sigh*

You should see the price of the 3.06 Xeon only 600..

*more sighs*

But alas these are only available to retail partners in the US as
part of the Intel Partner Demo program. Not sure if they still
do that here.

Nearly 12 months until a dual channel DDR-II chipset motherboard arrives :(

Hmmm, those are some lovely prices .... why is it that the US always gets the best of everything?:(

Thats the prices you pay iffn you are ordering demo equip for display systems and the like. Nock em in half for the actual US prices.

Wonder what the industry would be like if you only had to
pay $99 for the top of the range mobo here.

CPU's? ppffffft

mobo's? ppffffft

Who cares - how does that NIC perform, now THAT'S what matters... ;) ( yeah, I know - probably as well as your hard-drives :( ) Still, that's a pretty affordable price-point for a good gigabit NIC.

The pro 1000/MT BTX Gigabit server adaptor is nz$225+gst. Its the fasted card on the market. I've seen people getting 750mb out of em.

The pro 1000/MT LP Desktop card is 90+gst and the BTX version is 99+gst. These are good for sustained 350mb which is again up at the top end.

The pro 1000/MT dual port server adaptor is 320+gst and the quad port version is $1050+gst. Not sure on the performance specs on these.

The PERLK board doesnt have PCI latency because it has its own separate PCI channel. It also uses the Pro 1000/CT chipset.

If you consider putting a demo system together. Your looking at

PERLK Mobo 200
3.0C CPU 600
1Gb Kingston DDR434 650
WD1200JB 250
Gigabyte 97 pro 700

= 2400 inc GST.

Although Intel do a Kit you can get here for nz$1800 inc
gst which gives you the 875PBZLK 3.0C, Pro 1000/CT
120GB Sata drive and 1Gb DDR400 ram.

Adding the 97 pro gives 2500 inc gst. So I guess we are almost on a par.

That PRO 1000/CT is what they use on the CSA bus on 865 and 875 boards right? Any idea how it performs?

good for 350 sustained.

Actually gigabite ethernet is interesting. You need 1Ghz of CPU power per gigabit of ethernet speed (factor down for slower connections). At least thats the standard metric.

No wonder 10GbE aint taken off yet :)

Whats the deal with these demo systems? are they for retailers or distributors or what? I take it theyre not for the end consumer...

If they're for retailers, where can I get me some demo price goodness? :D

If you are on the Intel Channel program you can purchase equipment for use in setting up displays. Normally posters, boxes and the like.

In the old days you used to be able to get the latest and greatest complete machine for about half price. Now I think its just selected product.

If you are a retailer of Intel Equipment, then talk to your official Intel Distributor and ask them what they have available.

There are some tight terms and conditions on what you can and cant do.
