I love the idea of the new celeron 1.7 G ,being able to run on P4 mother boards.
does that apply to current P4 boards, or just the ones in the future.
I hope so, it makes for a great upgrade path :) .

Pity the actual processor sucks hard.....
Friends don't let friends buy celerons ;)
(Thanks deviant :D)
The celeries had their day, but quite honestly, i think the P4 celery is a waste of silicon.....
For people seeking performance anyway....

the new Celeron is a stripped P4
the Tualatin Celeron (256KB L2 Cache, 1.0-1.3GHZ so far) kick some ass i can tell you that... :D
the 1.2 run 1.6ghz + without too much modding and air cooled, have a friend who has a 1.3 @ 128mhz fsb, quite stable and puts quite a few P4's to shame on the way...
Personally, i am the happy owner of a PIII Tualatin Engineering Sample chip, treats me well, 1.2GHZ chip...
runs 1.36ghz nicely, 1.5 is i clock the RAM asynchronous

The Celeron 1.4GHz and the 1.5GHz have also been released now.

if it weren't for the crippled cache the P4 celly wouldn't be too bad. how they OC is still a reasonable unknown although the later williamette P4s OC'ed quite well (25-35% OC).
they are going to be quite cheap too, so they might make nice little THINK/SETI crunchers... especially if RDRAM mobos drop in price a little bit.

dunno why people still want cele's .. why not just get a low end xp... only reason i c is that they're die-hard intel fans....

Tualatin Celeron 900@1.2GHz, 133FSB. Perfect reliability config. :D

Personally the only Intel chips worth purchasing right now IMO are the 1.6A and 1.8A P4's. The rest of them are just dogs...
P4 Celery??? .18 micron, half the cache lopped off an a pitiful overclock compared to a .13 P4. Horrible really, and the performance in painful.
The Tualatin Celery's are better, but suffer from an extreme lack of memory bandwidth.
Personally I'd only contemplate a Duron, Athlon and P4 Northwood CPU as a purchase.
I'm looking for a celeron box, not for me, and I was after a 1.2GHz machine, and some shops won't sell them anymore, only the P4 celerons. I was quite suprised, I was thinking that the old celeron would still be around for a while.

d00d.. go to Inhouse Computers (http://www.inhouse.co.nz)
We have 1.0A's 1.1A's and 1.3's in stock ATM. Could more than likely get you a 1.2 if you wanted it....
(hmmm.. Really hope that didn't sound like pimping... Just letting you know you can get one)

u can pick up a p4 1.6a for < 400$ now , ramp up that fsb, get huge performance and not for a bad price:D much better than a cele as ull b able to hang onto it for longer

Sounds like Intel's trying to sell you a brand new car without power steering... 0.18 and 128k L2 cache? That's SO last year! And for a while, at least, you can probably pick up an OEM 0.18 P4 for less then a Cellie! :p
