If case the correct game didn't instantly enter your head, I'm talking about Star Control 2..!
Yes Star Control 2 will be updated and re-released..even better: By the original creators!

I have got no clue what star control 2 is. I don't think it is the "best game ever" if some people have never heard of it.
here is a conversation I was having with SSnake at the time:
Sydog: oi have u played star control 2
James ^_^: Have I played... have I played it !!!!!! I couldnt get enuff of the game ... now it won;t work on my rig
Sydog: random, ive never heard of it
James ^_^: Man ... Star Control 2 is an old VGA game right? I am pretty damn sure I played it on my 486

oh man that rocks... SC2 pwns all!
Sydog - you were probably still in diapers when SC2 hit the scene :P. it was without a doubt the most awesome game of it's time, and i can truly say i've never enjoyed a game as much as SC2.

Somehow I managed to miss the entire Star Control series :(, I was told once by a friend who had the 1, 2 and 3 that they were the best things since, well silcon chips. Should have borrowed them off him, but never got around to it
I wonder if the new versions will capture the old magic, or be like the scooby doo movie?

by the sounds of it the "new" one will be almost exactly the same as the old SC2 (except for a few optional "enhancements"), just designed to run on current hardware.
as a result it might seem pretty l/tame to the current gen of gamers... but that's pretty much beside the point :D :D

If you never played SC2 you missed out, it did come out around 1992 so some of you woulda been in kindy... anyway it should be all good but it won't look as pretty as modern games(eg: they're not going to convert it to 3D).. still the gameplay, witty dialogue, humour and extremely catchy mod's were the foundation of the game.
Star Control 3, while still fun.. was pretty lame in that it wasn't developed by the original creators due to a big dispute with the publisher accolade. In comparison to SC2 is was only half as funny and didn't make sense, it butchered the story.

Ah yes, old skool copy-protection...A real pain when the company releases some old games together on a compilation CD, and then rewrite the manuals into one big book not preserving orignial page numbers....

LOL. yeah and considering most of them had "protection patches" available you'd think they could save us some time and just re-release them pre-patched :D

In the Leisure Suit Larry series you could just use CTRL+X to bypass the questions.
