if you want to see if that brand New Athlon XP will Overclock much heres what you do.

On the Athlon XP sticker you will see the following or similar too

AMD Athlon XP tm
AXDA2600DKV3C RFBEXR2280073
AIUAB0231RPAW (R)(C)1999amd

Now on the above the 8th and 9th number on the line starting with RFBEX (Colored Red here for clarity) are thre numbers 28, now when AMD tested this processor as in the above example they initially ran it at 2800+ BUT it was not stable so they released the Processor as a 2600+, this Procesor has been underclocked by AMD, the thing is this 2800+ unsuccessful clockspeed was at the normal Voltage, if you increase the voltage by +10% or slightly more you will be able to achieve the 2800+ clock speed.

Oh btw// This works my 2400+ is now running at @ 2735 MHz
:D

That was posted some time back at the start of the year, but a link to punch your code in and it puts out all the info.

Still usefull :)

It is a well dicumented fact, look on the internet for it and you shall find :)
And NO the Athlon XP craches time and time again at 2735 I guess it sucks for OC, I will probally go out this week and buy a P4 rig, give thisd to my Girlfreind and see how well the P4 does

That still doesnt answer our question!
Not all CPU Cores are the same, some overclock better than others, The cooling you are using might not be the best, and just because someone can do it doesnt mean you can so start taking those screenshots buddy :)

bay you dont ahve enought volts going into it whats your Vcore?

it is a pretty good overclock around 600 odd mhz.

Some cpu's need to be burnt in before they reach there peak. you have no paitentce. you need more or you will get nowhere around here.

Yes, it is a well documented ;) fact, and i'm sure most of us here know that. Many XP2400's can do 2.9 GHz. With LN2 or Prometeia cooling that is, and with a VCore of ~2.1V.
And AFAIK the Gigabyte 7VAXP KT400 has a max VCore of 1.925V....

We would all still like to see a screenshot tho. ;)

And get a real motherboard, no Gigabyte was ever created for overclocking. :p

That part of the product code does not mean it's downgraded... . that's just an urban legend which has been proved to be wrong!

Totally agree that board is a POS for overclocking and I've yet to see a decent socket A board that comes near boards from Abit, Asus, hell even Soltek for overclocking on the Amd platforn.

Gigabyte make some decent boards for the intel platform though.
