Ram sinks are not needed for GF4 MX series cards since the run relatively cool even overclocked. (Anyone knows why?)
Oooo - pick me! pick me!
It's the fact that the RAM is BGA, not surface mount. The BGA packages ( what KingMax use for their system RAM ) just don't need as much power - and likewise, they just don't pump out as much heat.
;)
so... does more voltage+cooling=massive oc??

dunno why nvidia even bothered with the gf4mx series, cos everone is just gonna get the ti4200 instead :D
Thx KJ. I know the BGA format gives the ram better cooling. However, have u noticed how cool GF4 MX's ram are, even on that ChainTech 440??
The good old GF2 Ti series' ram are alot hotter.

Actually, the MX series ( 440's especially ) are selling quite well.
A Ti4200 will set you back a minimum of $420 ATM, while you can get a top branded MX440 for $290 easily INC postage to your door ;).
So for those with little cash, they're a good option. They're very fast too, even besting Ti200's in a lot of benchmarks. They have very good antialiasing, dual-out support, and hardware DVD acceleration - something that even the Ti4200's don't have. ( and as a result, DVDs actually look better on systems with MX440's than Ti4200's often! )
Of course, I want a Ti4200 like everyone else - but it's a close call. I'll be stone broke if I buy one, and that's assuming I can drag up the cash. An MX440/460 on the other hand I could get very easily, and would be amply playable in any game on the planet ATM.

yes the ti4200 is more expensive BUT at least its not just a buffed up gf2, + oc's to be just a lil less powerful than a ti4600... i wouldnt spend hard earned cash on an mx-series card when for just a lil more u can get a ti-4200 :p , but thats just my opinion :D

also depends on what u wanna do, seeing a lot of mx's in box's being sold from store's recently, but most ppl who buy premade box's arnt really interested in serious gamming anyway:eek:

Pretty good core overclock, thats more than GF4 ti4600's overclock to isnt it?

Yes, the Ti4600 is 300MHz. But the MX cores and the Ti cores are completely different.
Even if you could swap that MX core @ 375MHz with a Ti core at 250MHz, it would probably speed up.
The reason being that the MX cores have 2 rendering pipelines, while the Ti cores have 4. So the Ti cores do a lot more rendering in each clock cycle.
....but yes, it's still quite an impressive overclock ;).
I guess I got lucky with that core and memory overclocking. BTW, I don't think u will see Ti series oc to 370 MHz level anytime soon. The general level of oc for Ti is around 330 MHz.

Yeah ... the cooling isn't the problem, it's just the GF4 Ti cores can't do more than 330 Mhz [on average] .... even with the best cooling. or at leats what I heard.

Well yeah it is like comparing apples and pears to an extent, but I can still compare apples and pears if I want. I like Granny Smith apples more than pears, anyone else have their preference?

hehe, i know a guy who got his Ti4600 gpu up to 380mhz...even if it was with a 172watt pelt....he reckons he can get it to 400 with a volt mod...
