I’m looking for a place that sells a Molex Pin Extractor Tool. If you didn't know the molex is the white plastic connectors on the psu that plug into your hard drive etc and I'm looking for a tool to remove the pins. I’ve rung 2 DSE stores and they had no idea what I was talking about. I’ve seen one for sale from RS but its over $50. I’ve found some (http://www.tecratools.com/pages/datacom/extraction.html) on the web in the states for $3.50 which sounds a bit more reasonable for my use. Anyone know of a cheap tool that will do the job?

lol haven't tried it but might give it a blast. Not going to pay more then a few bucks to get them off thats for sure. I suppose some metal tubing will do if I could find the right size

easy peasy... long tweezers, they do the job perfectly

tweezers or tugging... my approach is:
1. attempt to find tweezers.
2. can't find tweezers so try using a piece of lacing wire.
3. attempt to find tweezers.
4. if tweezers found attempt to use.
5. if tweezers don't work or are still aren'y found, tug very hard and just bend the wee bendy things back in place and hope they don't break off :D

Cheers for the tip. I got some tweezers, pretty tiny things but did the job with a bit of tweaking. Would still like to find a tool < $10. Most places I ring up go "huh" "a what" "wat dat" but searching on google for molex pin extractor and there is heaps of cheap tools to do the job.

I used a bread knife myself last time... and a sewing pin on a different occasion.

yea, my dad has one of these, he bought it somewhere, but all it is is a plastic tube u slide over the pin, then u pull it out. u should be able to find some metal tubing of the rite size at a model shop...

Find a piece of fairly firm plastic tubing with the same diameter as a molex pin. Then push the tube over the top of the pin and pull the thing out the other side.
I've got a piece here which works great no idea where I scrounged it up from though.

As the subject is up again.. does anyone know of a decent place to buy molex plugs? I've got them from DSE at 3.45 a pair... too much I think . Someone said Jaycar had them... so I went to the store.. and these guys were hopeless.. didn't know what they were.. so I showed them one (I took), "oh yes.. we have them" .. and proceeded to show me pass thru connectors. , No , I need the plugs.. I say.. so he tries to sell me splitters, molex - 3 pin converters, you name it. So he ends up saying... "no , we don't have them.. never have stocked them". I end up walking out very dissatisfied with the service. And the 5 store people went back to talking amongst themselves!

which suggests you are in auckers... apparently there's a really good place on queen st...
as for jaycar: let me guess.. you got the indian team? That bunch dont give a rats ass about customer service. Not being racist or anything, but you'll get better service from the whiteys (from my experience)

I find our Jay Car distributor in Christchurch the same. They dont care at all about what you want or need & dont seem interested in helping you. If it's not on a shelf they dont care.
Use the pliers or a very small screwdriver. You can get a set of small screw drivers (the steel handled ones) from the warehouse for like 3$ or something & they do the trick quite nicely

playboy.. discover the search button.
Go ahead, click it.. search for neon and you may find that it was discussed a LONG LONG time ago.
now that you've learnt how to use the search button, you can graduate from n00bie nappies to huggies pull ups.
Grrr!!

Find a couple of free 486's/dead PSU's. Chop the cables, off, and there you have it.
And then chuck the rest.
