Just wondering...

There's the PC-Cillin Antivirus software that comes with MB. On the CD, it say for bundle only, not for resale.

I am wondering if its "legal" to give that software (including the original CD) to a friend and if that would be deemed as a legal copy?

hmm not too sure there Hans.. If it was me I wouldnt really care and just give him the cd anyway... I mean I'm not using it so why not?

Otherwise if it does concern you that much, get him onto AVG Antivirus...

hans, its illegal to distribute that software unless it stays with the motherboard. It belongs to that motherboard.

you may find that it may not work with other boards.

just between you and me though.....oh,and whetu.....I regard that software "freeware" cos they give it to you for free.So you should feel "free" to give it away since you dont need it anymore :D

I see people selling that sort of software all the time on trademe and haven't seen anybody picked up on it.:D

doesn't this relate to the OEM issue? its bound to the computer or rather mobo that it came with? like OEM windows

Not that any authorities would really care IMHO.... but it says not for resale... just don't sell it ;)

I doubt that any authority in their right mind ( -wait was that a double reverse oxymoron?) is going to come down hard on you for *giving* away software of which you have not retained a copy, OEM or no ;)

'OEM software' is a load of hogswallop, given that noone can really prove that it was sold with this or that particular product or whatever. It's really just an agreement between the supplier and the software manufacturer not to sell it without hardware, so the OEM stuff doesn't compete with its full packaged (retail) software (eg same stuff, with manuals, costs 10x more). Same story as builders getting really cheap deals on F&P appliances to go in new houses.

And whilst we speak of software licensing:

<rant> what I really despise is the idea of an os or software license (not naming any names, Microsoft) being 'tied' to your machine, so when you dispose of the machine you must also dispose of the license for that software, I mean it is like buying mags for your car and having to scrap them with the car, instead of keeping them for another car. It's f**king retarded. Not that I let it bother me or anything. </rant>

Ahh, that's better :D
