Im planning to get one when they arrive, anyone else thinking of doing the same.
I heard of pricing around the $499USD mark for the low end (that still being a 3 output 128mb version) would I imagine would be around the $1200ish(NZD) mark.
I use a Matrox G400 Dual head at work and love the flexability of the dual, would love to go one further. But also would not want to give a away the gaming performance of my GF3.
Anyone got any better estimates?/Plans to get one.

yeh i might get one, since ive been saving up for a whole new computer (keyboard an all :P) and hope to buy it at the end of this year/early nxt year
hopefully, the 3dlabs card and r300 will b out by then, so they could b quite cheap.......
yeh it will b a high end card, so it will b about $1000nz........i think........

i think it will have less fps than the GeForce 3 Ti 500 and the GeForce 4 Ti version. The thing about that card is that it has a lot of nice features, such as displacement mapping and so on, but nobody actually knows the test scores of these features and how fast they run. For example I think the GeForce 2 [really old ones ]could be hacked to use Anti-Ailising ... they wouldn't be any good at it, but they could do it.
Mmmm... i think the new Matrox card will be a but higher than $1000 ... more like $1200-$1500.
I think the main selling point of this card now, or interest now is the new extra features it does have. No doubt, nVidia will copy these.

The Parhelia will be an extremely fast card, though it will NOT be a gamers card. Gamers generally don't have a grand or two spare, so it'll still be ATi and nVIDIA for us plebs.
I know I won't be buying one. I'm having enough trouble as it is scraping together enough cash for a future upgrade to a 64MB Ti4200! :(

F**K NO! You need to do some more reading, bro. The Parhelia would WIPE THE FLOOR with a GeForce3 level card - even with NOS and a cathode on the GF3!

What you talking about, HACKED? FSAA can be run on a TNT if you want to. I used it all the time on my old MX. It's just that it's now in drivers, and hardware accelerated. It's just that 2X FSAA was like running at twice the res before, while now it's like running at a slightly bigger res....

You underestimate Matrox. EMBM - EnvironMental Bump Mapping. You know how you were chuffed that your GeForce3 did it? Well guess what? Matrox cards have been doing it since nVIDIA was pimping TNT2's. nVIDIA may copy some of those features, but they can't copy what's patented, and guess what.....

I agree, but in saying that, I'm allowed to have the 128mb version next month, obviously I wont get that one, but still :)

What if they put a window in it?

Lol - you're insane man.
You mock a piece of hardware. Some of us say it's OK. Then you decide you're going to buy one, hehehehehe... along with that Itanium, aye? :p :p :D

the real question is - can matrox keep up with nvida/ati in terms of releasing new cards AFTER the parhelia, cos if they can't .. it will just get outdated, and then everyone just goes back to nvidia/ati , and in a very short space of time too prolly... doubt they can really keep up with the big boys :D

ummm, looks nice and shiny, but the only use i'd have for it would be to drive GF4 Ti prices down....so that when i finally upgrade to one i can get it cheeply.

It looks like a damn impressive card......
But unfortunately it's priced a little out of my league... Maybe it'll kick start nvidia into an even faster pace which would be good.... Or drop in price.....
$500 US tho...... ouch...

the parhelia should theoretically be faster than both ATI and nVidias next-gen cards, so it'll hold it's own for a while at least. the other thing to ponder is how much gfx card technology will move in the next year or two, considering where it's at now - i mean, how much further can it go?

so what if everyone goes back to nvidia
it will b the parhelia generation that nvidia and ati will miss out on
but yeh probably after that it will b back to nvidia and ati, since matrox is a private company, they probably dont have the resources to keep up the r&d and fast product cycles of nvidia and ati....

still be very interesting to see how the parahelia performs tho, it has all the specs to be great, but im waiting out to c some real world performance figures...

yeah that's right, and they don't really need to. that's why i think the parhelia is such a cool move - they don't need the revenue, they're just saying to the non-believers - "we can kick ass if we want to".

Video cards are country miles from 'there'.
I didn't blank out the last time I was shot in a shooter - so they're not 'there'.
:p :D
( in case you don't know, most people shot with a 'blank' shot will go unconcious out of sheer belief of their death )
I'll be seriously considering getting one early next year at which time i'll have to invest in a new monitor too. Oh well, there goes another $2500 or so on my silly puter :(

yeh, apparently the parhelia will be the fastest u can get for about 2 months, then the R300 and NV30 will appear
But it's not all about speed. With the matrox you know that you are getting a high quality product that does very nicely on the 2d front as well as the 3d:cool: It's not all about gaming... well, mostly but there's still the other stuff:p

and as has already been mentioned it's the features... matrox are usually the innovators, ATI follows suit, and nVidia finally catches up after it stops waving it's dick around.

256-bit DDR memory interface
Up to 20 GB/s memory bandwidth
Up to 256MB DDR unified frame buffer

Well I'm a hardware wh0r3 and if I have to work 80 hr weeks at McDonald's damnit, I will have one! Too much ub3r viddy goodness too miss. I did notice on Matrox's website, however, that the card has DX9 compliant vertex shaders but nowhere do they explicitly state that the card is fully DX9 compliant, that worries me.

it is being touted at a DX9 part, but maybe it's a little hard to state whether it's fully DX9 compliant until DX9 is officially launched...

Yeah - there's always the possibility of last minute ( or month ) modifications to the DX9 spec.
*sighs*
I'll have to watch this one from afar - noway near my price range unfortunately :(.
