well, its not really worth setting everything up and then finding out that its all different. For example, is there going to be a DHCP server? that is, do IP address automatically get assigned by the server or is it manual.

i guess you've obviously got your Network card installed and working? in control panel / network just make sure you have file sharing enabled from the file and print sharing button and install common protocols by going add, protocol and microsoft. you should have IPX/SPX and TCP/IP

apart from that its really easy to set-up once your there and theres always someone to help.

just remember to disable a firewall if you have one running and if things aren't going ok still, CHECK THE CABLE!!! ;).

thats my $0.02 of advice

*mwhhhaaaaahaaa, gotta be quick around ah!!:D

How about asking someone when u get there.
Too many different ones that people use to give you an answer dude.
I use 192.168.1.xxx
Some lans use DHCP.
others 10.10.10.xxx
bla bla bla.
Better yet PM control phreak (i assume that's where u are going)

find your lan properties, example:
http://www.geekflat.orcon.net.nz/images/lan1.jpg
then select tcp/ip properties (double click or rightclick>properties):
http://www.geekflat.orcon.net.nz/images/lan2.jpg
and then here you are
http://www.geekflat.orcon.net.nz/images/lan3.jpg

what settings have you got it to at the moment?

you will also have to find out from the lan organisers what form of ip assigning they will do - dynamic or static?

if dynamic (eg DHCP server) - then set ip and dns to "obtain address automatically"
if static - then set ip address manually using an address provided to you by the lan organisers

Yup, what whetu said...

we have a DHCP server for the lan so all you will need to do is select 'obtain ip address automatically'

nice and easy ;)
