View Full Version : How many ISPs providing ADSL Connection?
Hi!
I am a new comer, I have just registried as a user of iHug, using dial up. It is pretty slow, especially compared with the broadband I used before(provided by ChinaTelcom, 2MB),so I want to switch to ADSL, however , I am afraid it will be more expensive. And I will share it with my flatemates.
Noevertheless, the 1st step is to choose ISP, so I wonder which one is better.
cheaper and reliable.
--------------
That is just what I am afraid, say, many other ISPs rent the line of Telcom/Xtrax, reselling it, even though they also provide good services.
So whose price for ADSL is more competitive, and the network is normally stable?
you guys opinion?

ihug's DSL service is quite reliable in my experience.. but not the fastest.. I'm currently on Inspire (www.inspire.net.nz) and having no problems whatsoever, very reliable service, great help personnel, and not the most expensive (not the cheapest either.. you get what you pay for in my opinion)

for a look at what NZ has to offer in the way of broadband isp's
[edit]hmmm that list is far from complete... i'll see if I can find another for you...

/*PIMP MODE*/
Go teh Inspire.
www.inspire.co.nz
You wont do better than them.
Good reliable connections, 10GB international traffic, unlimited national traffic, and I go a month free and fee connection as part of a deal.

I'm using Ihug and have no complaints.
Their customer sevice has improved considerably over the years and is now acceptable.

Quite a few provide ADSL connections, but nearly all are just reselling Telescums product. Exceptions are the Paradise/TelstraClear setups in some towns (Wellyville, D'Auckland and ChCh I think?) and some wireless bunches. I note in today's paper that Telecom are going to be forces to wholesale Broadband to Clear at a reasonable rate,so we may see a price reduction soon with any goddam luck. I am with Ezysurf (Virtual ISP offshoot) but the line is still Telecom

I heard from someone on the inside today, as part of a project team for wireless networking.
He says sell your shares in Telecom now before it's too late. I won't name names or companies, but wireless is coming to town big time for competition in the future.

selling shares?
in telecom? because wireless is coming? are you kidding?!
BCL and Telecom have a partnership to provide this to rural areas - once BCL sorts out its law suits (which it started and can't really win and will be force to sort out it receiving stations like the should have in the beginning)
And then theres Counties Power who want to provide fibre access to its rural customers and then wholesale to other companies such as TelstraClear.
And then there is.. to be honest with you there are heaps trying but telecom and BCL or prehaps Vodafone and WW stand a chance at the moment.
That said Ziggy whatshishandle wants TelstraClear to become more independant in the wireless market and considering they own decent spectrum space the could do so if Telstra Australia pumps extra funding in...
Just my thoughts on the matter as an insider

oh oh and double oh.. I know who the next big wireless provider will be.. and who wants to put all their Voice stuff onto IP.. hehhe
and I'm not telling.. and if you're in the industry you either already know or you're excited about the whole concept, or you're a monkey and work for telecom ;)

All this suspense is killing me... who is it? Who are all you guys talking about? I am guessing that you're not going to tell me... grrrr.
However, on the actual note of ISP's with ADSL, I'm with Paradise.net (www.pardise.net.nz) and I find them really good. They don't have unlimited national usage, but it's only taxed at 1/10th the rate of international, so you have to download a LOT for it to make much difference.

you mean IPsat 2way sattelite?
11mb down, 4mb up?
Lets just hope that they are smart enough to have no NZ based stuff, so that they can bounce everything in from the states. No more singapore tacking on charges for us.
If they manage to, they quite possibly will be able to offer uncapped high speed internet at VERY good prices. There would be no way the telecom could keep up.
check out www.nzdsl.co.nz for more info on dsl isps though.
