I have an athlon xp 1800 and ddr333 ram. But the ram effectively runs at 266mhz because the FSB is 266mhz right?

So, were I to increase the FSB, I should see some good performance increases because the cpu and the ram will be faster?

Im not planning to overclock just now, but maybe at some point.

Depends :p. What motherboard and BIOS settings?

Hehe - yeah, in general that's the case. If you were to run your CPU on a 166MHz fsb, then you could utilise your RAM to its full capabilities.

In the meantime, I'd just crank down all the memory timings - As PC2700 RAM should be warranted for CAS2 @ 266MHz ( only CAS2.5 @ 333MHz except for a couple of brands ;) ).

Heh, I know not of memory timings and CAS :)

I did find them in bios, what exactly do they mean and what would setting it back down do? (i think the CAS thingy is at 3 now)

Also, if I increased the FSB slightly, would I need to change other things, such as voltages?

mobo is an asus a7v333

Read the bios optimization guide there.
Read all of it.
Trust me, it is worthwhile when u are messing with something to know more about how it works and what the results are of what u r fiddling with ;)

Thanks, looks like a good guide.
