I am about to install it on an old Compaq XL 6150 with onboard SCSI and 64Mb RAM....
Anybody tried it yet?
What do ya think of it so far?
Had any probs with SCSI drivers/set up?
Does it really need the recommended 128Mb RAM?
Thanx in advance.

Hehe of course. I am the proverbial Tim Taylor devotee when it comes to more toyz and MORE power. (One day I am gonna get that grunt right too LOL)
I have never dabbled in the wild wonderful world of Linux before - only scored this old dunger to use as a nix playtoy - and as far as I can tell it is maxxed out at 64Mb. I guess I was a tad surprised when I read the recommended amount of RAM, cos I thought Linux was lean on the resource front and I am sick to death of windozey resource hogs.
Thanx for the reply
:)

Heh, exactly that. Windows is LOT less bloated that most people will admit. Trust me - XP and like are actually quite well optimised. Yeah, sure they need quite a bit of RAM - but you can't promise the world on an 8086 ;).
Mandrake 8.1 ran fine with my SCSI burner and HDD ( I installed it on the SCSI drive ). So 8.2 would of course be fine. The main issue is not with SCSI, but with exactly WHAT adapter you're using.
And from experience, you'll get more problems from large OEM proprietry formats than you EVER will from server hardware. Things like those lame old Creative CD-ROMs that look like IDE devices, but actually HAVE to be run off a Sound Blaster card . With THAT sort of thing you may have problems....

yup, it can run (in console mode) on, I think, a 386 with about 4mb RAM, although to happily use modern X based GUIs I think 64mb is about minimum...
