Does anyone know where to get this stuff in NZ?
Had a look @ the local petshop, they had no idea.
Has all the benefits of silicon, plus none of the dawbacks.
Check out this thread (http://forums.procooling.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2694) @ procooling for more detail.
Kickass stuff, as i dont want my tubing going pink overtime ;)
So, if anyone knows where to get some thick walled stuff with a 1/2inch internal diameter that would kick ass :)
I do believe this was brought up on the old forums.
*shrugs*
I'm very interested in getting a few metres of it :)

there's a big wholesaler type called BlackWoods (http://www.blackwoods.co.nz) that lists a tygon product (http://www.blackwoods.co.nz/product_details.asp?part_no=03214792) on their site. looking at the description it's a 50 foot roll of 1/2" ID thickwall (3/4" OD), of R3603 (the good stuff apparently - there are a number of other different types which aren't as suitable). it doesn't list a price but i'd guess they'd be more than willing to answer any enquiries.
i was looking into a while back but lost interest. i'm sure there are a few other people on the forum that wouldn't mind some if the price is right so feel free to contact them if ya want :)

Im interested, At the right price of course ;)
Ugh, I HATE VINYL. It retains its shape from the roll at mitre10 and puts sideways pressure on the water block when I have it running in case. Egh :(

*sigh*
been there - go over to OCAU and the Extreme Cooling forum, and seach for Tygon - they organised a bulk buy, but be prepared for roughly AUD$30/m - and he bought a full reel and sold at cost
Personally, it aint worth more than silicone - looks a bit prettier, but at what cost...?

I was keen on getting some when mirdOC was first looking into it on the old forums, but he never got back to me.
What's the average amount of tubing used in a full setup, surely it can't be that much, 2m?
If petshops might use it I'll ask some friends of mine as they own Portstone Petshop on Ferry Rd in ChCh. They are one of the biggest dealers in tropical fish in NZ (it's Eddie's speciality and passion), I was going to ask them if they were able to get Enheim (sp?) pumps cheaper than else where anyway.

$30 AUD/m?
nooooo....
How can it be $2 USD/foot and $30 AUD/m - d@mn shipping
I might be able to afford a couple of meters.... ;)
BTW, lots of info from the designers:

pet stores aren't likely to every sell it coz it's mainly used in the food industry... if you know anyone in the dairy farming business there might be hope tho because i think it and silicone are being sold to that sector.
oh and you probably won't find eheims much cheaper than what JB and co can do em for... even if you got it for cost you'd still only save a few bucks.

mirdOC is right on both counts - Eheims dont get much cheaper, and Tygon is a food grade/chemical thing. Ktulu asked around and couldnt fina anything (he works at a dairy plant), so mo luck there it's seem.
If you want it, you gotta bite the bullet.
But quickly, lets do the maths:
US$2/foot = US$6.60/m = ~NZ$13/m + freight
and freight is the killer - which is why it ends up at stupid prices
Remember those grabby things I was looking at from the states? That cost a total of US$20, and probably weighed 200g all up? Shipping is US$22 (NZ$45), and takes four weeks

Can anyone please explain to me why, in the age of free trade agreements, we are having to pay insane amounts for shipping?
Yeah I wasn't expecting to be able to get an Eheim much cheaper. Was more wishful thinking. :o :D

yer i reckon.. but i guess where a buck can made
but hey, if you're wanting a cheaper pump, those rio jobbies from SOG (http://www.sog.co.nz) are damn cheap and a lot of people swear by them...

I know shipping is the killer - but doubling AND THEN SOME the price when you're buying in BULK? He must have bought well over $500 worth of hose - and the shipping still kicked that there prices ass? Ouch!
( I know shipping's a killer for small things - only reason I haven't bought mouseskatez yet... )
 IDEA
Since it's 'LAB grade' - anyone asked any labs? :D
Or... a hospital?? They must go through a lot of tube, and I doubt they're sticking vinyl in people... though of course they're unlikely to be using much 1/2"....

RESSURECTS THREAD!!

I have a mate coming back from the states VERY soon - by next week. If we want to dodge international freight, now would be a possible window.
What grade?
Which retailer?
How much?
R3606? R1000? What's it gonna be? ( Oh - and it'll be 1/2", no 3/8" )
Straight from them? ( http://www.tygon.com/ ) Someone else cheaper? Prefer in California ( where my mate is )
20m? 30m? Who wants?
TROLL BOYS, TROLL - AND TROLL FAST, TIME IS OF THE ESCENSE!!

Yup, I'm good for 5m.
Am ho-hum re the R1000 (and couldn't find the data sheet for the R3606)
R3603 Looks like the sh|t !!!!!
Would be more keen on the Chemfluor PTFE Tubing -
http://www.tygon.com/prod/ptfeprod.html
But I am thinking these is gonna be costing waaaaay too much money, gringo .....
Your mate needs to contact the little Tygon peeps ASAP, a week is long to sort things out. Wouldn't bother to e-mail, better to ring
West coast phone numbers -
Direct: 330-798-6960
Toll Free: 800-798-1548
Might have to buy in 50ft lots; have you thought about putting a post up on OCAU to see if peeps there are keen ....
[me thinks you'll need more interest in this else it won't happen - can't see you wanting to carry the cost all by yourself]
I'm happy to front up my $$$ in advance; PM me if you'd like me to do so & after your boy's got some details from the Tygon peeps (ie if it going to take to long to ship to an address in the same state, can he pick it up from them
sorry for rant, not gonna bother to re-read it see if it make sence - brain fried: am off to bed.

Don't worry about time-frame, we're WELL aware of that. I'll be ordering them myself directly, and sending them to his address. ( If possible )
I'm hoping their west-coast distributor is in Calif ( that way I know it should be able to happen ). Looks like I'll order 10m in then ( as I doubt I can afford to stretch to buy any more in ).
And sorry for the typo, yes - I meant 3603. See here:
http://www.tygon.com/prod/r3603aprod.html
All specs are here:
http://www.tygon.com/pdfs/tygr3603.pdf
I'm also hoping I will be able to buy less than the 50 foot reel, otherwise ( to give an example using the first link below ), it'll be $2.65 USD /foot ( $5.50 NZD /foot or $18.04.44 /m ). Add $8 USD shipping over the lot ( $0.80 /m for 10m ), and you get $18.85 /m inc the US postage. So I should be less than Silicon prices are here!!! ( of course, buying from me you're not paying somebody a wage, so that kinda makes that a moot point.... )
We CAN get it for under $2USD /m IF WE GO WITH THINNER WALL. So I'll be keen to hear what you have to say about that ( from those keen to buy )
These are the retailers I've dug up so far:
http://dtekcustoms.safeshopper.com/20/97.htm?414
One option - $2.65 /ft
http://www.vwrsp.com/catalog/product/index.cgi?object_id=0013719
Huge selection, huge range of lengths, need a bulk buy - ranges from under $2 /m to over $3 /m!!
http://www.mcmaster.com/catalog/108/html/0083.html
Large selection - we can also choose lab/beverage/food grade ( may matter ).
And then of course the people themselves - Tygon.com ( if they'll deal ).
*keeps thinking*

I agree with Septic the R3603 looks the way to go.
If the pricing is close to what you've calculated I will be able to get a little more than I require. I am also happy to put some money up front if needed, a bit of advanced warning will be good though.
My personal thoughts on whether to go thinner wall or not is not. Either way seems to be extremely flexable so I would have thought that with the weight of water in the tubes and the being the way they are in a case it would be better to have a bit more support there so the tubes don't sag. I hope you understand what I mean.
Surprised mird and/or Tojja haven't made their way here yet. ;)
I think you might need to get a 50 foot reel after all. :D

Over at OCAU they have been there, done that. Personally, I cant justify the price (compared to silicone), but others can.
Have looked into it extensvely, but the math always comes out in favour of not doing/buying it...

two things, you will almost certainly have problems with the shipping and billing address being different (billing addresses in other countries tend to set off alarm bells for retailers, thanks to credit card fraud). You mate might have to be the to do the paying (thats why I said I'm happy to send $$$ to you; so you can owe him rather than a bunch of peeps he's never met - am assuming here that your mate trusts you enough to pay him back ;) ).
When my mate was over in the US a few months back visiting in-laws, I gave $$$ to him (before he left), which he gave to the olds and used their c/cards (billing and shipping address then being the same).
the second thing can wait till tonight .... have to go and do stuff now

Yep, post went down with the forum...

thx

It didn't happen. And I doubt it ever will happen from that retailer. They STILL haven't gotten back to me....
Sorry about the false alarm. But it will be mine, oh yes - it will be mine....
