Any one else had any problems with one of these?
We've had our DSE ADSL Router for a few weeks and I think it died this moring...
Turned it on and jetstart is not working, and I can't log on to it. When I type the IP address in the browser it displays a dns error page. The LAN seems to be working ok though. I have pushed in the reset thing on the front but that made no difference.

Have you tried turning it off at the wall for a few minutes... other than that, just take it back and get a replacement.
ps nice avatar ;)

Hi furio..
I bought a XH7916 a couple of weeks ago, I think it's the model before yours.
It went sweet for an hour or so,then did exactly the same thing as yours...couldn't log on or connect to the net,& tried to reset it a few times with a pin in that little hole on the right hand side..still no go.
I took it back & got another one and so far no problems.
Must be a fault with them eh ?
..it's a bit of a worry tho...
If I have any more problems I'm gonna ask for my $ back & get another brand.

If you guys wanna post what the problems are, I'll try and help as I have hepled 20+ people with theirs and am relatively familiar with the firmware, although I'm still learning the new 9.2 and 9.3 f/w.

Furio, one small "bug" I've noticed with the routers is that they will be a lot less likely to "drop" the connection(and pick it back up) if the DNS servers are entered manually instead of leaving that on auto discovery.

Your problem I noticed with a few routers on the older firmware, It seemed to have DHCP(?) problems and windows would assign some fake IP address (i.e. "Automatic Private Address" 169.xxx.xxx.xxx"), and it would stop LAN communication.
All that said, I've sold 200+ of these routers, own one myself, and have seen problems with maybe 20 or so, and maybe half have been "user error". :p
(Not implying that about you guys, just the "Joe Blow"s that don't even know what ADSL stands for.) ;)

I emailed dse about the problem I am having and they said to return the router to the store...
anyone know if they will just replace it or send it away to be repaired (if it's broken =)?

furio...
THe guy at DSE here in Rotorua just went out back & got me another one...The thing I was a bit worried about tho was the one I took back still had my username & password in it..but I guess that if the router is toasted it's not going to matter.
Iblis:
I was using the rel9.2 firmware( i think)...I've downloaded the 9.3 but not sure if I should upgrade or not,I'm thinking that seem as I've got no problems I should leave it as is.
Got a question for you...is it easy to set it up to send & receive files using msn messenger ? From what i've read I just have to open ports 6891-6900 in the virtual server config ?
Thanks

LumberJack, did you take everything you got with it back? the original box?
LumberJack

Yeah I did,but the guy just took the router out of the box ,went out back & gave me a new one.
He just had to show the reciept to the manager .
1. IP address, whether it was assigned as a fake IP, maybe this router enabled the funcation of DHCP.
2. ping the IP of the router to make sure it work in the same subnet.
3. check DNS assignment.
I think it is the problem of software rather than that of hardware.
so check the above of your computer and the router.

This threads damn near 3 years old now, you may want to have a look at DSE's website for their "newer" router versions or at D-Link.
