I'm making a new XP-pro CD and was wondering if anyone has slipstreamed the service pack "SP-1a" into the 'mix' yet and were there any problems?

My current CD is slip streamed with SP-1 and works flawlessly.

The reason I ask is that I found a tutorial (http://thro.port5.com/xaliasx0/xpss.html) that said something about Sp-1a is out and may be used for slip streaming but it does NOT contain "Microsoft VM" what ever that is?

One more question: Is it worth updating the 'deploy cab' that was released by MS in 2-03. (http://microsoft.com/WindowsXP/pro/downloads/servicepacks/sp1/deploytools.asp)I know that officially the deploy cab (aka:Windows XP Corporate Deployment Tools)is for "assisting system administrators in installing Windows XP on multiple computers. This file contains updates to Setup Manager, the Sysprep utility, and related documentation." Since I'm not going to be doing Admin installs, do I need to use it????

Any comments would be appreciated.

SP1a contains a JAVA VM, rather than the MS one - I think Sun Systems took microsoft to court to make them do that.

As for the 'deploy cab' - NFI mate. :p

SP1a slipstreams fine. It's what I use for mine. As for deploy you shouldn't be needing that unless you're wanting to run unattended installs and the like.

Also remember to throw in uxtheme on the CD as well if you want to be able to run the non-MS visual styles.

nah, if you dont plan on using RIS or sysprep then dont bother, it doesnt work unless the machines are near to identical, so unless you plan on re installing alot dont bother..
