View Full Version : need some help - Gainward Geforce 4 ti 4200 64mb
hey my mate just purchased one of these babys (gainward geforce 4 ti4200 64mb)and he gave it to me for the week :) to use and it doesnt want to run at AGP 4x
it only wants to run at agp 2x
now the MOBO is a ASUS tuv4x
with a : VIA Apollo PRO 133A chipset
now i think this certain chip has problems with running 4x agp in windows xp but ive been looking all night for a fix or some way to make it work but i cant get 4x to go
now the mobo does support agp 4x , and ive alrdy tried setting the 4x mode in the bios
Agp Mode - 4x right now in bios
but in windows it says this
(picture of my Desktop showing the Powerstrip reading)
http://www.homepages.paradise.net.nz/winiataz/wtf.jpg
ive tried installing the 4in1 drivers from tweakxp.com but they didnt seem to work either
does anyone know where i might get a fix or anyone know how to fix this please :DDD
When you installed the drivers did you select "turbo" mode..... I didn't and I couldn't get 4x AGP....... I thought turbo mode was something to do with the installation

Well that's weird, is there a newer version of Powerstrip to download? Maybe it's not compatible with the Ti4600. Because you said you set it to 4X in BIOS - well what happens when you save changes in BIOS and reboot? Does the system function normally? My point is, maybe it is running @ AGP 4X and Powerstrip is full of ****.
Also, try a BIOS update for the mobo - if you haven't already, that is.

okay, the problem lies in some stability issues with AGP4X on the VIA Apollo Pro 133A chipset. AGP4X was kind of an after thought which was an included addition to the "A revision" of the VIA Apollo Pro 133 chipset, and it seems it wasn't thought out enough.
the problem is documented in the GeForceFAQ (http://www.tweak3d.net/faq/faq.cgi) where it states (http://www.tweak3d.net/faq/faq.cgi#sw:drv:agp4x) AGP4X is disabled in all the latest nvidia drivers for this specific chipset. sorry pal :)
you can however re-enable AGP4X (follow the instruction here (http://www.tweak3d.net/faq/faq.cgi#sw:drv:agp4x)), but it may cause instability... if it does, try what's been suggested here (http://www.tweak3d.net/faq/faq.cgi#hw:gef:troub:mbc:viaagp4xstable). otherwise, just use AGP2X and be done with it.
mmm damn
just wonder if this part should say 4x supported in riva tuner? as it could be the 3d card??

at a guess i'd say rivatuner is querying the drivers and the drivers have disabled AGP4X, and that's why it's not showing up as supported.
