Is that a Canterwood P4 ???
Canterwood = the new chipset which supports the new Northwood with the 800MHz bus.
Don't confuse the two.
And these screenshots are indeed from the new 2.4C (stepping D1). These are reportedly posting 3.6GHz at almost default voltage on air ... VERY impressive, and enough reason to upgrade alone!

I read it the other nite.. nice one huh.. vapour chill tho :)
Didnt know the new CPUs worked on the old boards, thought they would step down to 533..
Next stop 4Ghz :)
Where does it say this is in an old (845PE or E7205) board?
My understanding is that using one in an older board will underclock it ... ie run it at 133/533MHz ... I am thinking of picking up a 2.4C next week to play around with in my 8INXP (until I buy a Abit IC7-G) so I guess I'll find out ... :D

Hi H2gO
That is some impressive bandwidth for the memory :) It it aint the RAM me wonders where the new bottleneck is :D
Do you know what board this is in??
I just looked at the sig and illogically assumed it was correct
Uh OK ... :)
It's not his ... but early reports suggest all these 2.4C's are good for 1GHz overclocks on air. Seeing is one thing ... ;)

He put the system into an ice box of sort, I believe could be an ice-cream freezer, maintained an ambient of 15C, and proceeded

Hey H2Go, I'll be getting a 2.4c and IC7 soon. Hopefully i'll be able to hit 3GHz unlike my 2.4b. Let me know how yours goes, you should be able to hit some crazy speeds with your Vapo! GL:)
it would seam there's abit of a race going on here as to who gets there system up & running with the highest overclock spec speed IMHO
I'm up to iT :p

your chosen combo would appear to be the "best" bang-for-buck IMHO , others may differ
I also note bob(nz) has gone quite on the same topic
*maybe he's already there*

It seams like a good combo value wise, though still high end and room for upgrading. I was within a dog wisker of buying an GA-8knxp but $540 was just to much. Hopefully I'll my stuff this week not sure on the availibility. Keep you posted :p

oh those p4c800 mobos are mint, have to pay nearly 600 bucks for them tho, i think im going to go for the cheaper option of the msi neo 2, which does most of the stuff the p4c800 does at half the price ( just not up to the high asus standard no doubt)

MSI 875P Neo-FIS2R P4 Motherboard (Canterwood)
This board is marketed with overclockers in mind, aimed and priced at the enthusiast. Even the CoreCell has overclocking features. But with the shipping bios and the latest bios, v1.1 and v1.2 respectively, the overclocking function does not work, on either 533MHz processors or 800MHz processors. I actually had to downgrade my BIOS to v1.0 to get the overclocking to work at all. As it turns out, this was a mistake as MSI never included the Promise BIOS in that online file, hence I cannot boot now from the Promise controller. The CoreCell proved useless in overclocking on both the newer BIOS?s. Another bug is the fact that you cannot specify memory timings in DDR400 mode. The moment you deviate from the SPD settings the memory switches to DDR333 mode. Very, very annoying. The by product of this, is that in-fact DDR333 with good memory timings yielded better performance that detected settings for DDR400.
how suck is that?

From the all the Canterwood reviews I seen so far all models are exhibiting a few weird bugs etc under certain conditions.. memory timings, FSB hiccups... SATA issues
This time round I vowed to myself that I wouldn't jump on the 1.0 bandwagon and would wait it out for awhile..
Seems to working out alright for me

Maybe there is nothing wrong with being cautious, however the issues that troubled the IC7 were fixed straight away with a bios revision.I am not aware of any current issues now?
As for the other boards it does not surprise me.
There is only one board ABIT..... or NOTHING;)

Ok this is making me so  . I have the exact same details for not one but two 2.4c's. Not one can do anything over 2.9:mad: . I starting to give up:( . I dont understand how there can be such a huge difference H2GO. Im guessing your chips runs a lot cooler in that Vapo? Do you reckon you could slow it down so it would run in the 50's, just for awhile and see if its stable? Im giving mine 1.65 just to post at 2.88  .

Now this is annoying. At default my 2.4c is running at 56C under Prime95. Thats with stock everything, and a Swiftech MCX 4000 with AS3 which is one of the best air cooling packages available. Im about to rip my hair out:mad:   .
if you 'd like confirmation as to the chips "top end"
send it on over & I'll run it in the Classic if ya like
