A few of the coolest LED's Ive seen came into my possession the other day. They were in cheap little midori promo light rings (my uncle's a booze rep). Anyhoo they are the colour of the midori mixer drink - a really cool green, any suggestions as to where I should stick 'em? Also, they were attached to 6V supply, any idea of the voltage supplied to keyboard/ case LED's?

About 2V is the supply from the mobo to the case ;)

I think changing the LED's on the NIC would be a good idea from light green to Midori green :D

Oh that's too easy :D

keep it clean now sp!

what about behind the drive bay covers so that the light shines out of the cracks (another one for ya sp ;) ), would look kinda cool.

or you could have em shining down onto the case feet, would also look cool
:D

Remember LED's are not Voltage Limited.

Be careful not to blow them by allowing them to draw too many Amps. If they are LED's (& not just small bulbs) you should be able to run them from all power sources within your pc as long as you use an appropriate resistor.

Use this formula to determine what resistor you need:

R = (E-Vf) x 1000/I

Where R is the resistance(Ohms), E is the voltage, I is the current of the LED (mA) and Vf is the voltage drop of the LED. (Usually 2v)

Or if you cant be bothered working it out try using around 200-250 ohms on the 5V line and around 500 - 600 ohms on the 12V line.

Please correct me if I'm wrong!

I was thinking of running LED's in parallel to the existing ones so I can have them on the front of my case as well (don't ask why). Has anyone done it before what's some of the problems & did it work.

Also If someone could tell me if I would disturb the power supply on the NIC by doing this?

You might get some issues with voltage drop when you add the extra diodes in. You might have to change resistors on the card which would not be easy. But I'm not really sure what would happen :D

I think this (http://www.overclockers.com.au/techstuff/a_net_led/) is what you are looking for...... it's from this page (http://www.softchitect.com/chris/case_mods/articles.html) which was mentioned here (http://forums.overclockers.co.nz/showthread.php?s=&threadid=551) in this very forum ;)

In a side note, does anyone know where I can get some LEDs in NZ which can be used for a backlight for an LCD panel, looked in DSE, but they only seem to have round ones...

try emailing SICOM (http://www.sicom.co.nz)... they probably don't stock em but they should be able to track some down for ya.

Cheers I.R. but the article didn't explain what I was concerned about which is the voltage drop. I guess when NIC's only cost 20$ I should just go do it huh? If I damage it I buy a new 1.

LCD backlights: I'm sure I've seen them in the Farnell Catalog. But I don't have a recent one. I'll ask my bro & get back 2 ya.
