has anyone had any experiences with the mini DSE Ronin PC ??
http://www.dse.co.nz/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/3ea206ab038c28a42741c0a87f9906dc/Product/View/XC8281
I'm thinking about getting it with a p4 2.4 cpu.
the size is 195x200x300 mm which is just a bit bigger than the mini shuttles 185x200x300mm but it doesn't cost $600+ like the shuttles.
It also has 2x5.25 bays !! :) and 250W psu. I'm just worried the psu won't be enough. I know the shuttle's 200W psu can power a 9700pro but this one might not be as good quality. Shuttle also has the ICE heatsink cooling ...is that any good or will a p4 retail fan work just as well in a small pc?

but the manual from dse's page says its a 180W psu ...can that run a cdrw, dvd, gf4, 2x hard drives and an audigy ? :(

probably not :p
but that's basically the problem with most the mini pcs out there.

depends on the specs of the PSU really, as what they quote and what the PSU is stable at are two different stories....ie running a Shuttle with a 200W PS with 2 7200RPM HD's CDRW and GF4 with a couple of extra fans no problems at all
Would almost put money on my PSU being able to deliver a more stable o/p than some of the cheap 300-350w PSU's out there
best example...pmpo on stereos, do you really believe the 1400W PMPO that big flashy sticker on the front says?
Try it....if it works...all good...if not, then return it

I wish I could but I'm on an athlon system. I will have to buy a p4 cpu and probably can't return that without some sort of restocking fee :(

the SK41G is not nForce2, it is a VIA KM266.

Just seen one today and put it on lay-buy (thank you power bill)
They are VERY nice - large enough to be able towater cool with out too much haxing - the PSU looks ****ty - you can fit a normal size pcb in there - just need to extend the FET's a little and do a custom HS for them - anyway will have pics soonish
and if you woundering why the RONIN is being phased out so soon its because DSE dont want to bring more in when the shuttle pricesfall ;)

Only 105W combined power on 3.3V+5V. Even a decent video card would top that, added to a P4 1.8, CDR/W and HDD.

just thought i would have a search for my pc and looky what i found... just answering a few questions
yes the power supply is big enough, im running 2 hdd, a gecube radeon 9600se, p41.8, a cd writer and a dvd rom.
its also very load but oh well. when i put my vid card in there was very very little room between the vid card and modem (1mm i think) but oh well there is enough air flow i think/hope
sorry to bring this up  but i had to comment :D

don't buy from dse. <- period A little blind if you ask me. I have been rather impressed by some of DSE's newer products and the support via their website of them. There support for linux is also very good. True they do also sell a lot of crap but so do most retail stores.

my 230 watt power supply quite happily runs my prescott 3ghz+ liteon dvd burner + radeon 9800 pro. its not all power rating you know... some of it comes down to motherboard design and some down simply to the quality of the parts used or what it does with the power it gets.

yeah, the quality of the parts are getting better, but i cant seem to overclock this beast  i wanna oc it but i cant find any features in the bios, i have looked for the mobo site (its a p4bga) and it came up with commell and the other was commate, now i have no idea which 1 i have, i have had a looky on the mobo but theres nothing about a brandname.......... i wonder if i flash the bios that it will have these oc features, apparently these can go to 2.6ghz?
what can i do....
