Anyone care to submit their candidates for the worlds worst reviews? Reviews that use inappropriate or totally wrong tests, use gammy graphs, or have grammer and spelling similar to an average thumb-tack's attempt?

 My first candidate:
http://www.tweaktown.com/document.php?dType=review&dId=290

That's right, a Ti4600 vs R8500 revue that uses the INSANE resolution of 1024x768!! That's over 700,000 pixels - far more than your average nokia phone can even display! Watch these babies sweat! As if that's not enough - DirectX is represented by 3DMark 2001 and the ALMIGHTY 3DMark 2000!! There are many other highlights - but I'll leave those for you to find out ;).

And yes, I would be more than willing to put my arse on the line, and if given similar hardware, provide a much better effort ;). ( please note the similar hardware :D :D )

In their defence though - how many *normal* people actually play games above 1024?

Grrr!!

They're suggesting thought that normal people use LESS than 1024x768 which is pretty much standard.

They must think that 320x200 (doom resolution :D ) is acceptable.

Whats even worse.. is when people read these reviews and think they are experts just becuase some site put it on the net.

Most sites would not dare say anything bad in a review, if they ever want to get gear from that supplier.... Its just business..

Most pubic forums are full of "Review Experts"... its a scary world out there and its just getting worse.

"Will someone thing of the children...!!!" :(

How many *normal* people buy $800 video cards?

And of those that do, how many pair them up with $300 15" monitors?

And of those that do, how many are out of mental institutes ATM?

My point being - YOU DON'T BUY A Ti4600 FOR THAT. Especially not in a rig like that ( 2GHz P4 ).

1024x768x32 with NO AA and NO ANISO?? WTF?? It's a Ti4600!!! Try 1280 with 4X AA and Aniso!! FFS!!

And 3DMark 2000? Dude is a M - O - R - O - N.

And as for all the 'here we see the Radeon catching up' comments - FFS!!! He's using a P4 2.0GHz @ 1024! It's CPU limited!! Just look at his choice of games, JK2, Max Payne - CPU limited benchmarks. I think you'll find Anand found these to be CPU limited at even higher res'.

And as for the BIG, IMPRESSIVE, 2-bar graphs - oooo, scare me!! Those numbers look so big now... is that a waste of bandwidth. Their saving grace being their axes'...

His concluding marks are a JOKE. If he likes the Radeon so much, and feels the GF4:

...is little more than a over-glorified reference card placed on the market at a rather high price. While the card was able to top the results, it still does nothing to justify the price tag placed on the card.

...then why the f*ck do they both get 9/10's??

I'll excuse the fact that he ignore's 2D quality, DVD playback, Antialiasing, Anisotropic filtering, Dual-output ( all Visiontek cards have it, same as the Radeon ) abilities, TV-out abilities, VIVO......

...no wait, I CAN'T excuse those glaring ommisions. I'm sorry - what the hell DID he look at  .....

And that concludes some of my observations. BTW, my offer to do a better review still stands Disco.... ;)

I remember when I was hunting around for a Leadtek 4200 review I came across this sad excuse for a review. (http://ocplus.freeservers.com/winfastgf4ti4200.htm) A couple of paragraphs and some Quake and 3Dmark benchmarks. I'm sure he was using a 10gig hard drive when I first read it. Notice he doesn't mention the name Leadtek once and recommends using the Winfast Drivers that come with the card, no mention of Nvidia drivers.

Quite a few actually. You seem to be forgetting a quite profitable kiddie gamer segments.

You know the ones........read 1 review saying this is the newest, fastest GF4. Goes to parents saying "I want this one". Gets it and plays CS at 800x600 cause they don't know how to change the res.

The majority of people still run at 1024 on 17".........and a proportion of them have a GF4 Ti4600 :P

i have a gf2 pro and i play CS @ 1185x862x32 x 4xFSAA

on a 19" moniter

if i get a Ti4600 ill definately play everything @ 1600x1200

I usually try to play stuff at 1024x768, but my vid card and the Q3 engine choke abit at that res (cuz of the FSAA)

I totally with KJ on this one, the guy is an idiot. If you are using 1024x768, the review should be on GF2-MX, and to not mention all the extra that the card can do, is like:

This BMW is great, we could get it up to 35 km/hr in first. That's it end of review!!!

No mention about top speed, handeling, safety features, power window etc...

How many of you guys trying to justify the guy would like a car review like that?

Don't get me wrong here - I'm not saying this is a great review, I'm just pointing out their reasoning for testing that way.

I agree - They should've at least mentioned that this wasn't really stressing the card at that res.

you hasslin people that run 1024 on 17"?
No, cause I'm in that group as well :p

They should still include 1024 * 768 benchies though as that is what many people use. But buy no means should that be ALL that they use. It is ridiculous to draw concluisons based on tests that have barley scratched the surface of what those cards can do.

It would be like taking the latest ferrai for a road test and sticking to the speed limit "cause thats what most people are going to do". That hardly tells you what the ferrari is capable of nor does it highlight the differences between it and your average mazda 323 :D

LOL yea that review is shocking:
Me thinks that the choice of what to buy in the 300 to 400 Dollar range just got a little easier in the Graphics card market .
did this guy do school cert english? you dont type a review like you would talkin a chat room...

not only that, but he didn't even compare it to any other card so wtf is the point of reference??
