Hi Guys, have you heard of the YOBBO wireless network???

http://www.yobbo.co.nz/WirelessCommunity.htm

We have had it running for about a year now. We have 20 users, a connection to a counter strike server with a pipe to the net. A server is on the hill with the 3 AP's over Ricc, City & Brighton. Costs about $500 for equipment. There is no internet yet.

There are cards on the web site, but for the good one, we have to do a bulk order to Taiwan for the best deal on the best equipment. How ever, there is gear in NZ that will get you on the wireless today. Just not as good.

WARNING: YOU NEED LINE OF SITE TO THE CASHMERE HILLS. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO SEE A MICROWAVE TOWER.

You need a sensitive card, say -90dB to -95dB at 1MB connection.

All the gear is 802.11b.

Use the biggest antenna possible, unless you are next to it, lol.

We usually install a PCI card or adapter to fit a laptop card, you will need an adapter/pigtail lead to go from the card (a small connector on the card to a larger connector to handle the larger coax to run to your antenna. we recommend no longer run that 10M. We use a low loss microwave cable for $5 per meter plus connectors.

This then goes to the 24dBi gain Parabolic Dish that is on your roof etc. You may need a hockey stick and stays if you do not have line of site from your TV antenna, that and the dish is a little on the large size. Just think of Tim Toolman of Tooltime. :)

It is very easy to alien your antenna with the software that comes with your card. You will have a live bar graph that will show between 0 to 100%

From there you should be able to download at anything from 50 - 450KBPS.

Check out http://www.yobbo.co.nz/WirelessCommunity.htm for more info.

We are looking at spreading out to Radcliff's, Sumner, Papanui, Rollerston, Haswell etc. The more the merrier.

[edit][edit]Power above don't see a problem with you posting, and you are deemed 'not a business'. However, please reply in the threads that already exist.

Cheers :)
