Hey - what do you guys ( those of you that DO use CD-RW's ) buy for your RW media? Just wondering.
I'm looking to CD-RW for my document backup, rather than currently just spreading stuff across hard-drives . I don't mind spending $10 a disc, and I figure even a $20 CD-RW disc would be worth it if it were stable and re-writable enough. So I guess that includes d@mn near every RW brand on the market :D.
Last time I checked ( a couple of years back ) RW's were only good for a couple dozen re-writes. Is that still the case?
*crosses fingers*
It's easy to find CD-RW DRIVE reviews, but not MEDIA reviews . So any thoughts or experiences appreciated :).
uh? I was under the impression that CD-RWs are good for 1000 writes. (The good ones, of course). I use 3M, Liteon, Aopen and they perform well. Done around 50 or so rewrites now. BTW, they are all 4X/10X high speed RW discs.

Whew! cool - I was hoping they had improved. I know when they first came out I had a look, and decided it was a dead end.
Any reason for those brands? Do you consider them better than say Verbaitim ( geez - that names been around a while, I've got an 8" Verbaitim on my wall :D ), Imation, Sony, Kodak etc?

I think this link should make you happy KJ, also has some great docs on creating a safedisc 2 backup under clonecd

I never liked Verbaitim, coz I find they are not really compatible with some devices, especially their blue CD-Rs. In fact, I hated Verbaitim. But that's just me. Some pp likes them.
I like 3M (which is Imation) and Sony. Found them to be pretty good and relatively long life. I got the Aopen and liteon coz it was bundled with drives.

Yeah - I found that site. But it doesn't actually tell you anything about stability and rewritability. It just lists capacities of various branded disks ( like I can't tell from the packet  :p ).
I still can't find any media reviews...
Maybe one's never been done...

Be a bit hard and expensive wouldn't it. And the results would be from personal experience, might not give a good indication of the quality of the media.
for eg someone may never have any problems with the sh1ttest media available but have reading probs with the most premium media.
Anyone else think the Kodak cdr are really really crap, I hated them and have had more problems with them than the most budget brand ive come accross Melody

The only problem I have had with a Kodak CD was when I ran one over with my chair and flaked off the recordable layer, Mr Data(cheap spindles from Kmart) on the other hand has produced more frisbees than, well a thing which makes frisbees, also picked up 10 melody disks today for 4.95 at harvey norman, the packing was sh1t, and I think 1 disk is ruined by that, but 5 bucks for 9 disks is still good

Never really used CD-RWs much myself.
Only ever used the Arita that came with the drive.
It'll all come down to what works well with your system. For example, with TDK or Transonic I can only burn at 4x. Throw in a Verbatim or Melody though and I can burn at 8x.
Never had a good experience with Kodak.

I've found the NEC disks to be pretty good. I'm not sure about the others but NEC have a 1 year warranty - for what that's worth.....

I don't know how the warranty would work. It's not like they can do much when they lose your thesis that's stored on their.
What makes you say I'm a spam slut
