That's right, the Return To Castle Wolfenstein: Game Of The Year Edition maps and patch is out now :).

It's a hefty download, ( 58.9MB ) but well worth it. If you're a dial-up - just leave her overnight. You'll need both a patch file ( to upgrade to version 1.33 ) and the GOTY map pack ( the big download ). Retail versions of the game from now on will be shipped with the patch and maps included.

The two main improvements are stability and of course the maps. No more random crashes every few hours in Windows XP ;).

As for the maps - they ROCK!! There are FINALLY a couple of smaller maps, making the game actually fun with only 4-8 people. Of course, the majority of the maps still have the 10-20 people sweet spot, but thankfully they've also added a couple of BIG maps. So those 24-30 people matches can use maps that aren't entirely crowded, AND it doesn't have to be the beach map!!

Anyone else still lost in some of the new maps? :D

Yeah, thats what made RTCW so boring at small Lans. I only ever played it online on dialup and got like 400 ping

daa - aaammmnnn

One of the new maps is HUGE. Primed for 20-40 people. Man, just had a fly on a 60 person server....
( and yes, there were actually 60 people on it ;) )

*drools*

I love this game :D :D

Ya see what the thread is titled?
RTCW - GOTY Edition
Right.
If you wish to talk about the size of your.....downloads, go and tell your mum or something.
Please stick to the thread title.
Good God people.
Is it necessary that we (the mods)hold your hand thru every single thread.
If i have to babysit you people i want some cookies damnit!
Moving along, hehehehehe.
This mappack looks damn good, will be immensely fun @ lans ;)
Didn't notice any difference in stability.
The original unpatched version ran fine on my machine with zero hiccups.
*shrugs*
Guess i was lucky ;)

SP- I thought you were stuck with a TN2m64 in your sytem?

*realises he'd better relate this to the thread topic*

Sounds like they are worth getting, but as I don't have RTCW anyway, I'll just go and buy RTCW:GOTY and not have to worry about my crappy dial up.... hehehe :D

Well, the 'tram' map r0><0rz. I'm liking this game more and more.

<BRAG>
Just had a successfull blast on an NZ server :D. This is from my 3rd successive 100+ top-scoring winning game  ( BTW, who's keen for a game or two at L3? ;) ):

you arent cheatin by playin with the gamma turned up by any chance ;)

KingJackal

I have a large, darker monitor - so I play with the gamma turned up a bit in-driver, and maxed in-game.

I didn't have to with my old Mitsubishi monitor ( which was so bright it was insane ), but with my 19" I have to. With that monitor I actually turned down the brightness on the monitor. With my 19", neither brightness or contrast budge from 100%.

To give you an idea - with brightness/contrast @ 100% on my monitor, and no in-game or in-driver gamma controls, I can't see my way across the beach ( the outdoor bit ). All I can see are the brighter reflective bits of the water, the sky, and the explosions and gunfire. So it was like anti-cheating. However, I hate the washed out ugly look of a cranked gamma - so with the way it's set now I can still miss people if they hide in shadows.

I don't consider gamma correction cheating, purely because it's impossible to determine the effect it has on gamplay. Your gamma setting in-game, gamma setting in-driver, graphics card, monitor brand/model, and the age of the monitor are all factors of how bright things will look to you.

Why would I when I can use my drivers?

ATi Radeon drivers allow MUCH more flexible gamma control than nVIDIA drivers ( in case you didn't know ;) ).

Then you should try the multiplayer - it's a totally different game. Lol - I still haven't finished the single player. I will sometime - but only to practice the maps...

1) Full pipe no advantage
Jetstream games games servers are only usefull for Jetstream users, as the bandwidth doesn't count toward their tally. However, for Jetstream Starter users ( Jetstart ), it makes NO difference. You'll get the same pings - which is the only thing that matters with multiplayer gaming. Even 56kb is ample for modern games - it's just that dial pings don't cut it.

2)Server
The same one all the [clan]ed users use :D. Gameplanet RTCW #3 ;). I also use the other NZ and AUS servers, depending on map, players online, ping, spaces available etc. Just got off a Gameplanet server 5min ago.... ;)

3)I'm not 1337 ATM
I've just COMPLETELY remapped my key's, as I did some analysis and realised that my command load was faaarrrr too index-finger oriented. I've finally made the WASD -> ESDF switch, and re-mapped everything else. Added in a few scripts recently too....
( yeah, I'm getting pretty serious :p )

The best players play after 10pm... normally right through past midnight or so. That's also the best time to get into some 20-40 people mega-rumbles :D. Also be wary of spies - you'll often see a [SS]. -101- or [TIGERS] log on, go spectator for a few games, and then leave..... ;) :p

I know the full pipe makes no difference unless you have more than about 3 people playing through your connection... but it did only take me 2.50minutes to get the map pack.;)...... 4 hours pppffftt........
