Didnt quite know where to post this... anyhoo its here now

My PSU fried itself about 6 months ago so I just automatically replaced it with a cheap Aopen 250W PSU. Im thinking of upgrading in the near future to something in the Athlon XP 1800-2100+ range. What benefits does a higher Wattage PSU offer?
Can anyone help me out?

Thanks

p.s. dont you think this guy - :p looks stoned?

I got that exact same PSU..... it was okay until I started adding case fans (I've only got two) and then got really unstable when I added some glow wire :p..... that's all with out OCing either :(

I've seen an Enermax 350 Watt (http://www.pp.co.nz/PSUs.htm) for 156 so I'll be going for that in a couple of weeks ;)

Thanks, im planning to do things like that - 2 more case fans, CCT, laser LED's etc :D. I will have to go for the Globalwin 8860 WITH 400W PSU... only $95 extra tho I suppose

Go for the Powmax/Leadman, they are excellent psu's as many of the forum members will tell. I have one also :)

I hear that if your PSU doesn't put out a high enough wattage you can get random restarts! Most people would consider this the main reason for upgrading!

Also the more devices you add the less power there is to go around. Putting in a higher wattage PSU will allow easy additions withought the risk of random restarts.

Now I'm no expert here thats just what I have heard. I hope it helps.

 Ive had random restarts. Not that many - maybe three in the history of ever - and they didnt occur when the CPU was under any sort of strain... but still theyre a pain in the arse. I will be upgrading

Why yes, yes it is. ;) That was the point of the post and the link, you see, to show Undr8d how cheap a quality 400Watter is........

Sounds good, StylesPC IS the cheapest around for most stuff, but Dragon PC (http://www.dragonpc.co.nz) is bloody good too :D . So I have the option of buying the case with a stock standard 400 Watter for the extra charge of $95 or buying the case and a quality 400W PSU separate for an extra $150... such a choice. <- he's confused, not constipated as I originally thought :p

Stock standard is unacceptable - must buy aftermarket.

I too have the GlobalWin (YCC) 8860 case, I like it, very good value for money. :D ;)

Meh.. I would go Enermax 350watt over going Leadman 400watt.

If one goes for a enermax over a leadman, i would recommend shortening the ATX wires.....
It's too bloody long, most irritating, and it drops the voltages a bit.
