View Full Version : chkdsk and win2k

Sometimes when I run chkdsk with no parameter, I get the message saying that errors are detected and it can not continue in write mode. I fully understand that, so I continue on with typing in chkdsk /f which tells me that the drive is in use and can schedule a disk check the next time it reboots. Thing is when it reboots it goes through the chkdsk like usual but this time and everytime after it reboots, it never finds any problems.
Going back to chkdsk in windows, I get the same message saying that there are errors and it cannot continue.

The only way I have got around this is to insert the Win2k CD and boot off that then go into the Emergency Repair Console and run chkdsk from there, which then fixes the errors and THEN only chkdsk in windows reports nothing.

Has anyone else encountered this?

Note: Using Norton's Disk Doctor, errors were also encountered but the same problem with the scheduled repair on reboot.

Help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Do you have SP2 installed?
Do you have a '98/ME partition that you could run Scandisk from?
Check for viruses.
Nah, bugger that - format the HDD/partition and reinstall 2K. ;)

Yea I have SP2 installed.
This is about a 1 month old install.
It happened on my old install as well.
Could it be because of SP2?
And no, no other partitions with those OS's.
edit: No viruses either.

Any more help?
Another weird thing is that after it reports an error, I proceed to reboot and run the disk checker but then it finds no errors before windows or even in windows.
This is really bugging me.
I don't know what it could be, it's happened on multiple installs and also on different harddrives.
