It's a good stepping for a Palomino. In it's day it was the chip to go for, though the best ones were the cheap 1700s and 1600s.

The fastest they would go to was just over 2gig - and that was with some high volts (<2V) and real good (water) cooling. Mind you a whole bunch of people on OCAU got agoia 1700s (1466mhz) to over 1900mhz with nothing more then 1.85V and the trusty, but dusty V7+.

So, it's not as good a t-bred b, but it's a lot better then the ACKHA or whatever first the stepping was first chips came out. And better in comparison then the AXIA thunderbird chips were also.

Don't expect anything over 2000 though. It's not like today where you see guys with a $110 cpu getting it up to 2500mhz or something.

Where can one find this information online, eg a list of the numbers and what they tell you in terms of 'T-Bred' etc.... I am wanting to buy a new chip soonish and want the best buy (my old palamino hardly overclocks)

cheers in advance..

The OCAU forums are always worth a browse - bigger then here so you get a better sample of what people are getting out of their chips. Their AGOIA thread was excellent.

www.overclockers.com have a cpu database that people submit steppings and overclocks to. SOme fakes though.

the problem is - in NZ at least - it's damn near impossible to buy a specific core/stepping/week/whatever CPU since none of the suppliers recognise the difference. that said there are a few retailers who may be able to hook you up with the goods, but it's still not easy.
