is it my networking n00blness or is win me or is it just that m e is the gayest os knowen to man. I could play games and stuff but not fileshare... I set up the work group, i set them both to detect the ip automatically and both had no firewalls.

can you explain further?

setup the ip's manually, you are linking an NT os with a lame 9x os (even tho winme does have the 2k tcp/ip stack) so you're going to have to setup the accounts accordingly

Have you got the guest account active? and you can't share stuff in your directory.

from memory (it's been awhile) you have to set up an account on the host computer with the same logon and password that you use to logon to the win 9x pc.

On the 2k machine either:

1) enable the guest account (remember to disable it when you've finished lanning for security)

eg: Right click on my computer > goto manage > users > guest > properties

OR.

2) Create a new account / user with the exact same username and password as your friends logon..

eg: Right click on my computer > manage > user > ner user

Alternatively, set up a full access upload directory on the Me box, and control the file sharing ( both ways ) from the XP box.
