They rock :D
Best bang for buck ATM. Highly recommended from anyone with any sense. Only disadvantage I can think of off the top of my head is that they lack hardware DVD decoding.

You'd just rip it off anyway and put a waterblock on it :p
For those of you who owns a Gainward Ti-4200 64MB version, what's the memory rating, 4 or 3.5 ns?
SilverPriest

then it wouldnt go, then he would rush over to Coolmhz's place and test it out
*sniggers*
Afaik hans, the 64meg version, from what users said in the last forum, one had one with 3.8ns mem, the 64meg version......
i thought it was 3.6 personally....

I am yet to test the Ti4200's, but from my previous Leaktek and Chaintech experience - I would say the Leadtek would be best if you've got a big screen ( and it's kind of a waste to pair a card like that with a 15", soooo..... :p ).
Purely because Chaintech cards use really mediocre 2D filters. Now I've got an ATi Radeon 7500, it's back to what it WAS like with my old Leadtek - nice n crispy :).
( Dunno about Gainward  )
Yeah, I recall pp talking about the rating but I can't remember the exact figure.
I've talked to a dealer in NI, and he told me it's 3.5 ns...

Well the leadtek ti4200s are on TasTech (www.tastech.co.nz)'s site. ;)
Don't have a look at pricewatch then....... they have anything from 3.5 - 4ns  There was about 10 different configurations for a GAinward GeForce 4 4200 Ti

There seems to be a lot of confusion on the memory settings of the BGA ram. I believe ALL the GeForce Ti range will use Samsung BGA memory. Have a look around and see if you can actually spot the code on the BGA memory, from the top of my head I believe the the last number and the last alphabet denote the ram cas setting. i believe that the denotation 2A is 2.8 NS rated ram.
If you want, you can even try to take of the heatsink [if it does have them] off the BGA ram, and check out the numbers. These should always denote 2A if it is supposed to be 2.8 NS [if something else, I don't know what you got there ay ...].
I think anyone selling the Gainward Ti 4600 Golden Sample should always be 2.8 NS ram. No idea on the Ti4400 Golden Sample version though ... I even remember seeing that the LeadTek Ti4600 has 2.8 NS ram!
I'll check up on the 2A NS thing ... I remember seeing it though...
Doom III is very much hardware driven, and one of the controversies of this year’s E3 was that the game was demonstrated on the latest ATI graphics card rather than a card from NVidia.
“NVidia has been stellar in terms of driver quality and support and doing all of the things right,” says Carmack, who has been an outspoken evangelist for NVidia’s GeForce technology. “For the past few years, they have been able to consistently outplay ATI on every front. The problem is that they are about one-half step out of synch with the hardware generation because they did Xbox instead of focusing everything on their next board. So they are a little bit behind ATI.”
“I told everyone that I was going to demonstrate Doom III on the best hardware, and there has been no collusion or kickbacks or anything like that going on. Our objective is the technical merit.”
“The new ATI card was clearly superior. I don’t want to ding NVidia for anything because NVidia has done everything they possibly could; but in every test we ran, ATI was faster.”
hehe. :D

Yes the Ti4200 is a very good card for the money. I personally would go with a Leadtek or Gainward GS.

Not sure if they are best deal, infact not sure if a GF4 is the best deal at all.
case.
I own a gf3 ti200 and I have borrowed a mates Ti4200 64mb to give go for the weekend (lucky me).
And from what I can tell its not too much faster than my GF3. Ok morrowind for example I can play it at 1024x with pixel shaders on on the GF3 its sweet I can turn on Quinnoiux antialiasing and its a bit slow.
On the gf4 its a sweet with the antiailiasing on, but doesn't work at 1280x1024, so al you really get out of it for morrowind its the FSAA. Which is pretty sweet but not sure if its worth the extra money.
anyone else had similar experience?
anyway how I look at it is, I saved $150 getting a GF3 instead of a GF4, which gives me an extra $150 dollars towards my matrox card when they arrive.

Of the Gainward Ti4200 cards currently available:
64MB version has 3.5ns (Nanya I think) RAM.
128MB version has 4ns Samsung RAM

Do you still need the Voodoo 5 tho SP? Can't you sell it and then put that money into the Ti4200 fund - it should fetch a good price on trademe.......

Hey Sp if you were planning on using dual out with the voodoo, then sell that, get the gf4 and either it'll have a dvi2vga adapter or get one from scuttle.

The voodoo5 5500 doesnt have dual out you dolt.
It has dual processors.

Maybe he's assuming your TNT2 is PCI?

He was meaning that if you were going to use the voodoo and the tnt2 (or something different) to get two monitors running.
Then why not just sell the voodoo and put the tnt2 back on the table. Next step being to purchase a Ti4200 and if it doesn't come with a dvi2vga converter, buy one separately from scuttle. :D

You buttaxe
Or the voodoo is pci, never mind I think I read somewhere that v5's are agp.
The only reason i can see someone buying a voodoo these days is cuz it's dirt cheap or they want dual monitors, I'm sorry If I don't give a **** about Voodoo's.

I am not selling the voodoo, as i stated above.
I dont care about dual out.
