I dunno, he just ordered one from his wholesaler when i was there, I asked for a 100mbit one but I don't know what model it was, there was a $1 difference in the retail and oem version though.

May have to send him an email.

*Yes honey, I know I said no more hardware till I got you a new vacum cleaner. But I need it. Without it you wont be able to play Solitaire... Honest... * :D

The advantage is it is probably the cheapest and bestest nic that is NOT realtek chipset

No Netgear do not use Realtek chipsets. They are good quality, high performers, have a lifetime warrenty, and good driver and standards support.

Just got my Netgear 311 and can't say that I am impressed.

Well that is totally untrue, the card was a breeze to install in XP. Now I will just have to wait till tomorow to see if it was my nic causing problems booting up at 145mhz

I dunno what models he can get, I know he can get the 311 and I think the 312 (wake on lan). There arent any more models are that are 100mbits anyways

There's the old model FA310 ..

It's no longer in production due to the FA311, but some places still have stock left over.

Woohoo...

Just put in my order for a 311. Now all I need to do is work out a way of getting to ChCh and I'll finally get to L3. :D

Sydog: what was the verdict on fsb

Cos I'm always looking for small upgrades for my components, and while I've tried a few NIC's, my D-Link ATM is kinda average.

Cant say yet, My fsb reset before I got it and I cant be stuffed ocing it yet, and my rig has been on straight since like tuesday so it hasnt been off for extended periods of time. I will now shutdown, increase fsb to 145mhz, go to last day of skewl for term, goto work and get back home at 5:12, turn on my rig and see what happens

hmm.. not sure if it fits in network catagory. but the biggist culprit of your FSB overclock is in my opinion, is KT333 chipset in DRV5, which is CD revision, and known for not-too good FSB overclocking. and soon got replaced by CE revison.

and another note, that the fact is Realtek based NIC can take some serious FSB. some guys done FSB overclock limit benchmark on various NICS (3com, intel etc) and 3com did worst, but Realtek did the best. may be lesser complexity of board design helps it to tolerate higher PCI bus speed. but having said that, your board is based on KT333 chipset, which has 1/6 divider to start off with. so i don't really think NIC will hamper/help your FSB overclock.

Yeah I think i'm gonna have to replace my mobo soon, it randomly froze on startup, when i reset it booted with same clock speed.

Realtek based NIC can take some serious FSB

True and not true... it totally depends on the manufacturer of the card...

The realtek chip itself can usually take high fsb but the implementation of that chip a nic differs between manufacturers.. some suck worse then every other nic, some are damn good...
