Anyone know what this stuff is like?
Looking at getting rid on my Geil crap and need some friendly advice:D

Everybody is down on Geil lately, but from what I read, it needs the volts to perform, have you tried giving it a bit more juice?

I am about to build an NforceII system for myself so am really interested in the correct ram choice.

Consider me camping this thread.

I've got 3volts up its butt and it's not stable past 190Mhz :(
I know alot of people are having problems with it...

What model/brand is your nForce2 mobo going to be?

Hey, thanks for asking... I am looking at the Epox 8RDA+ right now, but am open to suggestions.

By looking, I really mean looking, I have been scouring about 6 AMD & epox specific forums looking to see what common problems people are having, and how to overcome them.

Ram stands out as the number one important decision with the nforce2 boards, I have seen some crazy stuff go on with people spending up large on PC3200+ stuff, having it fall over much like Harls experience and then replace it with a couple of old sticks of PC2100 and run it sweet at 200mhz FSB!

You are right to be choosing carefully, there seems to be a lot of confusion out there right now and some very mixed results.

Volt modding for ram is looking interesting, a lot of people are finding it the key to stability and gaining higher FSB.

it's good and it's awfully priced. honestly, it's not really worth the cash, but if you're after some wank factor and you've got money to burn * then it's a good choice ;)

* or you're like some in this forum who just can't keep their money in their wallet when they see something shiny.. teehee.

I'm running a Chaintech nForce2 7NJL1 board and had lots of problems. Killed the first board within a week. They also seem to run hotter than other boards.
Now that there has been a new bios released I've tryed it but all it has really done it allow me to go to 250FSB.
I wouldnt recommend this board at all. I was looking at changing to the MSI nForce2 board but I'm gonna give this board a good run first. It seems to be running stable tonight.

I'm very very happy with my Mushkin PC3200
I haven't stressed it that much, only up to 160fsb @ 5-2-2-2
It's been stable as a rock, 2x256mb black series PC3200 on an A7N8X Deluxe :)
Kingston Hyper-X memory is supposed to be damn nice as well, but time will tell.
They have a good rep though.

Corsair is still the best... it's got maximum wank factor.. but lets face it hand picked chips.. quality ram..

I've had my Mushkin PC2700 up to 183 @ 5-2-2-2 CMD 1 on stock voltage (stable). I'm so impressed I'm getting another stick next week.

cheers. Hmm, from PCgear...maybe i wont buy some. Is it me, or is it also a little dodgy how it says "Generic DIMM, valueram"? i thought the valueram was kingstons crappy stuff?

Ok here goes a dumb question... Why is there a price difference between the Mushkin PC3200 Black & Mushkin PC3200 Blue?
Blue seems to be about $30 cheaper

Nevermind, found the answer

Hey, I emailed him regarding the HyperX memory .I will be ordering one from them and see how it turns out. He replys email fast :d

Yes - that's correct. The packet is labelled as 'Kingston Hyper X'. It has a part number on it of KHX3000/512 - 512MB PC3000 CL2.

It comes in a plastic shockproof case with a manual in it.

Hope that helps.

er no he actually asked what colour Muskin people were running....... so it comes back to the whole random thing as I don't believe COSAIR is a colour of Mushkin ram

I.R
16-03-2003, 11:43 AM
Yes I did read the whole thread and if you'd noticed that the post above your "random cosair" was actually asking what colour MUSHKIN people have. Just blurting out a brand isn't very constructive.
I'm trying to help you out (and keep these forums as constructive as possible). If you want to last a bit longer then try a bit harder. There is no point in just posting "COSAIR" when they guy has asked something else specific to a different brand. If you don't know don't post.
If you want to extol the virtues of COSAIR ram then sight specific example e.g. I got my PC3200 XMS to x fsb with these timings.
If you had read the whole thread you would have seen that Ragnor had already stated the COSAIR was a bloody good brand on the first page.

Any more discussion on mine or your comprehension skills is likely to end up with this thread being locked and that won't help X2C.

Well i've been trying to get this Geil ram to run ok but it's just not working :(
If I turn the FSB any higher than 190 the ram goes ape, but if I knock the ram back to 83% (166) the PC runs fine... even run fine at 206FSB.

I thought this ram was ment to be able to do 216Mhz @ 6-3-3-2?

ok, ill try be more specific... just lighten up a tad mmk :)

as always with oveclocking, your milage will vary. there are other things to take into consideration tho, such as slot placement, voltage, length and route of memory traces on your mobo, etc etc.

if looking for top end FSB
based on own usage the HyperX from Kingston shouldn't be over looked IMHO
