Hey :)

I'm back in Adelaide now (it sucks), and have a bit of a LAN set up here with my Dad and my brother. We want to be able to send each other messages, but he doesn't want to use ICQ or MSN or anything like that.... just something simpler that goes over the network.

He was using AniazPopup on his and my brothers computers, but they're both Windows 98 machines, and I can't get the program to install on my own XP one.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a nice little effective message program to use? :)

Cheers :p
Max.

Run:
netstat IP MSG
Something like that...

I would do that, however my little bro is only 7...

The two Win98 machines have WinPopUp which works fine, but I can't find an XP equivalent that would talk to them.

So this is within the house right? Have you tried standing, walking to another room and opening your mouth so sound can escape :D

Seriously though, are you able to perhaps write a script to send netstat messages so it is easy to use?

:p

I just found the perfect thing. It's not the prettiest ever, but it has both rooms that you can chat in, as well as the ability to send people popup messages that only they can see (and Othello is even built in!!)

It's called SimpleChat, appears to be free, and I just got it from Download.com 2.29MB. It's worth a look if you have a LAN and no other easy way to message people.

Cheers for your help :D

Install Microphones on each PC and use Roger Wilco to shout at each other :)

We will be doing that soon for when we game (my little bro is hanging out for some Quake), but I listen to music constantly when I'm at my PC (usually on headphones), and so voice is rather inconvenient most of the time.

or people who have fun exploiting flaws in programs to cause others to crash their copies :p
direct connect works well too, you just need a hub

how about when they are sitting in windows desktop doing nothing with no programs open, so you just send a message to get there attention, Like a windows error. Lord Booga did this to a whole Lan once. Im pretty sure I dint have any other programs installed.

And the messenger service should be the first service that you disable. It is evil.

Along with about 50 others. :D

If you are struggling with non pc people. there is a proggy called msnserver or summit, which lets peple log in using msn and chat over network. I do'nt remember much about it, but it could be helpful.

mmm Winchat

1 Start>>Run
2 Type winchat
3 run the program
4 choose dial button at the top
5 choose the computer of the person on the network who you wish to talk to.
6 both users must agree to connect to each other to talk.
