View Full Version : Pricing update out of interest

Tiggerz

Intel CPU prices all dropped today..

Out of interest, since I dont sell Intel stuff, I have been considering not selling Amd stuff as well. I thought I'd mention this because I got asked if I didnt want to sell AMD stuff and I of course said No. This means that you folks all wont be getting any Tiggerz posts on the latest AMD technology, not that you'd at all be interested in that type of thing anyhow.

So I shall resume playing 1942 instead :)

this is cold war spy lingo. Let me translate... ahem...

he sells intel, and gets the latest goss on intel as a result. he has "contacts" on the "inside" see;)

AMD (the Ruskies) are anti capitalism, and hence want to stop intel selling cpus. In order to beat intel to a pulp they have to produce mean high performance cpus at lower cost and try and sell everywhere intel sells. Hence making overtures to Tiggerz to "double" for them. Tiggerz has waved his Intel flag, to try and get a better deal out of AMD, meanwhile pretending to proclaim his continued support for intel and keep on the "inside" with his "contacts".

Sorry I had to blow your cover there sport... no hard feelings:cool:

Nadgers, now I shall have to go hide again.

Yep, am an Intel chap through and through - have been for nearly 20 years now..

And yup, I have access to all the latest news and gossip and its good to share it with you all.

And nope, I really dont want to sell you folks anything.. There are others that do that better than me.. You see coz you'all are in a different market to what I operate in, so it all wouldnt work anyhow.

Did I say that Barton will be readily available in NZ in 4 weeks time, if not it will.

My business channel is SMEs and NPOs (Small businesses and non-profit orgs), which means I am not set up to sell consumer stuff. I'm not even sure how you guys would go about payin for things.

Anyhow, the Amd things is that I sell a fair few PCs that are Amd based, and I have been thinking of also offering CPUs direct (mainly for upgrades and the like). This is of course no concern to you guys, but it does mean that I would have access to the real technical info on Amd stuff, which would of course be interesting.

So I guess the real question is, would there be an interest in knowing what is going on from a channel perspective, rather than relying on the media hype that goes on.

And yes, Amd did release their new pricing the other day, and it wasnt down.. Their new + range of CPUs are priced the same as their Intel counterparts which means we will shortly be inundated with a raft of CPU comparison benchmarks.

Maybe I'm just a smartypants but I got what he was talking about in the first post... ;)

More insider, technical and channel info is always excellent, for both intel and amd cpu's..

oh and..

Any retailer that wants dodgy overclockers as a market is crazy..

Let's see first there is the very high rate of returns (it was DOA honest, I didn't OC it at all), plus it's mostly students (low income), then lots of small cheap purchases and also unreliable erratic buying trends...

Just look at certain said CHCH retailer founded by certain said ex forum moderator... they're clearly getting out of the parts & pricespy competition end of the market.

There noway near as cheap / competitive as they used to be.. they'll be opening up shops and going for the mom and pop market.

[psychological mode] Tigger, I have no problem with you, so dont take this the wrong way, but I feel you tend to seek aproval. This is based on almost every single post I have ever seen you write. Tell me about your mother...[/end mode]

Same here too! No post of mine in this thread is written offensively. So I should be in your good books now, Tiggerz.

Ok, more information it is then..

An no - I dont have good books and bad books, not interested in that stuff, like a good slanging match from time to time myself.

No, not seeking approval.. Just trying not to piss the moderators off.

I'm privy to a lot of information, some of it is commercially sensitive, so while I can't tell you what it is, I can often let you know when it will be available to the public so you can look out for it. Sometimes I even have to wait for someone else to leak it before I can tell you.

Some information such as pricing, would not be sensible to post, because as soon as I did that, you would know all of the markups and suppliers each reseller uses, which would harm the businesses of those trying to earn a decent crust.

Also, I try and avoid blatent advertising, which goes against this forum. If I advertised directly and got away with it, then the forum would be legitimately open to spam. The problem with this, is that some [technical] information is used for marketing purposes - so again I have to be careful.

Sometimes I have to wait for you guys to actually ask the question, which means some times I have to lead you to ask it. (See the advertising bit above).

Sometimes I need to know the answer to a question for research purposes, but the answer I need is not the one you would give if I asked a question directly, this means I might post a question in a deliberatly cryptically way.

So in some ways you could say I am seeking aproval, but mainly only because I have to be carefull in what is said and done. And I would suspect only related to this kind of topic.

Personally If your under any form of NDA regarding product release, prices, price changes etc then even hinting that you know more but can't say is not so much seaking approval as perhaps "showing off".

I think youd be better of just not saying anything until your able to.

Speaking from my own experience half the time I've read most of product roadmap and pricing details on the Net before the information even reachs us from Intel etc (exluding the conference call/pub/cafe rumors of course where your always going to pick up a bit of information that "you didnt hear").

Most people here seem to already have a pretty good idea what the margins are on many products anyway.
