I have a AMD Xp 1700+ with a Volcano 7.
This is on a Soltek 75drv5, I have 2hdds a maxtor 7.2k fdb 80gig and a 40gb
Ive got a Pioneer 16x dvd, Aopen 24x cdwr
Sony fdd I think - will this somehow restict it
leadman 400w psu
dse 100/10 nic
Gainward gf4 ti4200
kingmax ddr333 256mb
As i said in the last forums everytime I boot up from not using my pc for a while, It either resets my comp then starts normally or resets the cpu speed back to 1466mhz.
Any suggestions, will a mobo bios update help

Well for a start, you might wanna change that whole "Soltek 75DRV5" thing - it's not like that board has ever been a good overclocker :p.
May I suggest an Abit KR7A? :D :D

What KJ said. That Soltek DRV5 will probably have the 'CD' revision of the KT333 chipset. The 'CD' is useless for overclocking. The 'CE' Northbridge is the newer revision - it has no OC'ing problems.

Could be the DSE network card not handling the higher PCI bus speed if you are overclocking via the fsb.
Still in any case sell the DRV5 on trademe for $200+ and get a Epox 8K3A+ for $270 odd from Styles... cheaper then a KR7A, same highpoint RAID controller... better bios options, the extra divider etc...
..I'm still waiting for that Abit KX7333 to make it to our shores

I have to agree that the Soltek boards can be a bit inconsistent in their overclocking. Still, in general the quality is better than most other "budget" manufacturers.
Jumpering the FSB higher is probably the best way around the problem. You might not be able to get the best out of it but it's better than nothing.
Ideally you'll be looking to jumper it at 166 system bus if it can run reliably at that speed. The PCI bus will be running at standard 33MHz in that case.
The NIC could be causing problems if the PCI bus is O/Ced. My guess is that it has a Realtek 8139 chipset.
The other problem could be that the core voltage is set through BIOS.
Initially when the board starts, it will go to default CPU voltage before the BIOS setting comes into play.
The DRV5 doesn't appear to have a switchblock for setting Vcore unfortunately.

If it's only after a while of non use, it could be your CMOS battery. It could be a dud, time expired, flat, a cheap one or just making bad contact. Try another battery, as I had this problem once on a mobo that wasn't even a year old, but them my date/time etc would be reset as well. Is your date/time resetting as well?

I have the DRV2. To my knowlege it has some sort of failsafe device that will reset the fsb if it thinks that it's too high. Does that to me sometimes if I'm running my 1600+ @1900 (154FSB) and turn of my pc for the night, and try to boot up in the morning and it's back at 1600+.

Unfortuanately a Mobo upgrade isn't on the cards at the mo, wont have enuff cash for anything much for a while, at least a month or two. It doesn't bother me that much as it only does a fsb reset when i have it clocked at 150mhz, when at 145mhz it resets but the fsb stays the same

Have you tried setting the system bus to 150MHz using SW2? Set 4 & 6 on according to the manual.

Yeah I get way better fsb speed when I set SW2 as 150Mhz, does the DRV still have the SW2?
