View Full Version : Compaq S9500 19" Monitor
After pissing around with that POS Proview PX-986N monitor. I decided to ditch it.
The display blurs after 1024*768 and this is a on Leadtek GF2 Ti card.
Then I decided to get a Compaq 9500 from Campus Computer in Canty Uni.
It's @ a good price as well, $478 inc GST. You can't go wrong with it. Think it's the best your money can buy, for 19" and below $500 mark.
The monitor supports 1600*1200 @ 75 Hz or 85 Hz @ 1280*1024. The display is crisp and sharp. I recon it's output is on par with the ViewSonic E95.
BTW, S9500 = S920.

Really
hmm
how bubbly does it look??

It's as bad as the E95. That should give u an idea. Lots of S9500 monitors around campus, so pop back to canty and have a look.

I know ... it needs a bit of tiding up though. It looks aweful on the black background.

There's a 19" monitor roundup in NZ PC World this moth - I just browsed it 30mins ago. Didn't mentioin Compaq sorry ;)
Of course the $1200 Sony wins, but they had positive things to say about every single damn machine
I'm gagging for a Philips 19" p40 - but apparently the text looks blurry. Anyone care to elaborate?

Is that what PC World says? or Mavericks experiences?
I'm getting a Phillips 109P-40 soon aswell.... hopefully I'm making the right choice?

The blurry text was the opinion of PC world. They didn't say what they were comparing it to - it's hardly in the same league as the $1200 SOny machine.
There was a thread about one of these monitors being blurry, but Philips provides on-site warranty, and apparently they'll just replace them if it is indeed blurry.
I might get one as a summer work gift to me - that and a new HD would be about me I think...

well, i too would get a 109 p40, but i cant really spend another $300 on a monitor compared to a AOC 9klr, has anyone had experiences with them? I have heard they are not that bad, and are damn cheap. They do 1600 x 1200 @ 75hz.

I posted the thread about the blurry Philips 109 P40 a month or so ago.
A week after informing Philips NZ, I had a delivery of brand spanking new one. Still not 100% crisp but noticeably better than the old one. Apparently they had quite a few in the first batch with problems, which have since been ironed out.
If you are going to be staring at text at high res then definately consider a decent monitor. Your eyes will not regret the investment.
The 109P40 does 1600x1200 at 85Hz and 1280x1024 at 100Hz. Perfect Flat Aperture Grill.
