Ive slowly been building up my arsenal of WC equipment and finally im ready to go, so i think its time to get the blocks lapped again (they've oxidised quite steadily for the past few months ).
Someone suggested using something like brasso instead of several grades of wet&dry because it was more readily avaliable, but id rather see if anyones used it before, just incase it leaves some sort of residue which is going to cause problems in the future.

sandpaper??? phew no-way....try this....Carnauba-base Car/Wood/Metal polish...it's cheap, and multipurpose, and best of all...it's like an extremely fine (I mean absurdly fine) sandpaper as well as a polish....I found it was quite a bit better than brasso at that type of stuff too....

i usually give it a quick scrub with a scotchbrite pad, just enough to take the top off the oxidation, then give it a good polishing with brasso, followed by about five minutes of buffing with a soft cloth.
i do it everytime i have my block off (which is quite often at the moment), and it brings the base up to a perfect mirror surface every time.
cutting compound as dellguy-lover said is quite possibly better. i don't know, as brasso has serverd me well up until now.

Listen Mr. French-sh1t-OC.....I am right, it IS better, and I will terminally damage anyone who uses "dellguy"and.
As you said, "lover" on the same line, or even the same sentence.
PS...I am NOT pissed off, I'm just analy retentive, and no, is not a threat, and unless you would like my "friendship-stick" (not what you think Shag.....my AK47...) shoved up your arse, and my rusty steel-wool sauce-pan scrubber pulled through your nose, and out your c0ck-hole.....then I would consider changing your previous post...

I use several grades of wet/dry sand paper on the flattest surface i can find and move the block in a figure 8 motion.
if the surface is really uneaven start at 180grit and go down to 1200 if your really picky, or 600 if ya cant be shagged :)
As far as i know brasso does leave residue behind, but it only affects it if you want to laquer it, then u gotta clean it off with somthing.
You can tell its flat when:
a) you can use the thing as a perfect mirror with no image distorion
b) hold a really sraight edged thing (e.g. metal ruler/ something precisely machined) up against the lapped surface with a light source behind, and see no light between the block and the straight edged thing. move it along the whole surface to check continuity.
c) Put the block on a really flat surface, and lift it off quickly, if its dead flat you should feel some restriction on pulling it off, cuz the air gets squeezed out from underneath and creates suction. Pro lappists (?) can get 2 surfaces so flat that they stick together like superglue because of the lack of seperation between them.
Anyway, thats what i do... :)

You've been around long enough to know we keep some standards around here. I enjoy the odd battle, but yours is just filth and ofensive (well at least I find that post of yours utter rubbish and offensive), even if you may be joking.
